+1 yI've lived in the US my whole life and I always thought it was, but after doing a few trips to Europe within the past few years, I have to say, NO!
Europe certainly has a lot more to offer in terms of sites, but I think the standards of living and attitude of the people is shit compared to the U. S., except in France and the English speaking countries.
I've traveled to East Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe is the only region where I always have problems finding reasonable accommodations. It's like their hotels and apartments were built for midgets, then the midgets suddenly moved out and they just left everything. I've never seen such small and cramped living quarters. And if you want an American style hotel, you have to be willing to dish out big bucks.
Also, when you live in the country that has the world's best customer service, anywhere you travel is gonna seem assholish. But in general, I admire the U. S. because we treat everyone equally. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part, we don't discriminate against foreigners by charging them higher rates, and our restaurants don't charge for ketchup and water, and most places have free toilets. And our waitresses constantly check on you, while in Europe you can sit for hours and if you don't call them over, they won't approach you. But the thing I probably admire most is our police actually arrest scam artists, unlike in Europe. And I've noticed in America in general there is more of a system and order to things, and everyone is so polite, while in Europe it's basically a free for all or figure it out yourself kind of deal. Sure, you can get almost anywhere using public transit, but what good is that if the system is a mess.
I've traveled quite a lot in recent years, and I genuinely believe that the U. S. is Number 1, when it comes to treatment of tourists.

There is just more of a safety net, in terms of health care, benefits and worker's rights.
The US just seems to be based too much on corporate and private selfish interests to be appealing to me. It seems rather utilitarian and materialistic, your value is judged in those terms.
Also, my understanding is that you still have the downright evil requirement to be vaccinated to travel there as a foreigner. Hardly a last bastion of personal freedom and freedom from the government, is it? Corporate interests trump all.

I hope not. I know that woman was killed with a gun on Christmas Eve but we have common sense unlike most Americans
I think Europe is better, as you can move freely to see diffrent coultures from completely diffrent location and all, and in an area that feels there is more, and is pretty authntic
I still remmber someone telling me in the US everything is BIG and fake 😅
Its a big country some of it very self centered with huge landscapes and things to see, but there something kind of the sameness all around, that you can kind of feel your in the same location with small changes in most of it
Overall I guess it some what depends on what you looking for when traveling130 Reply- +1 y
LOL, everything is FAKE. Look at YOUR country! Tell me, why are there modern reconstructions on all the Jesus sites, except in Jerusalem. Why aren't there two thousand year old churches in Bethleham, Nazareth and Galilee? Why are those churches only a few decades old? I don't think there is a single old building in Haifa. You guys don't even have any decent archaeological sites.
- +1 y
@KostasKouvalis
Well... I don't believe in Jesus or in god at all, so not really something I looked into
And no "decent archaeological sites"? Have you been here? I can't say seen any Christians once but schools did take us to lots of Jews once and soooo many in every corner on lots of time periods
Actually what the hell is a "decent archaeological sites"? one with signs and a food stales so they can sell you stuff? I mean a real one is just a big hole where they slowly dig and find stuff
Anyway sorry if you find it insulting its a saying someone I know was saying and has something to it
I mean a lot of what you see in the US is very commercial and that, that I think was the main point - +1 y

Large ones. Massive walls. Grand columns! You have some, but they are small. Certainly, can't compare to places like Balbek or Ephisus, or the crusader castles in Syria.
But you're dead wrong with you think the US is just fake shit and massive buildings. You're clearly not familiar with the Southwest. Google Mesa Verde, Chaco Canyon, Taos Pueblo and California missions - +1 y
Also, your country geographically is very ugly, except for a few border areas that are green and hilly. What the hell happened to your forests?
Just for the record, I have nothing against Israel or its people, but your cities, sites and landscape are ugly. Literally the only reason I would visit, is to visit Petra from there. - +1 y
That's why I think it's funny that you would judge the U. S., when you live in a very ugly country yourself.

@KostasKouvalis please relax and read what I said
First of all I said someone I know says, and its not meant as an insult not really
Second of all... you know Israel.. is a tiny place right? a place that had lots of wars and lots of fights in history it was rarely calm, hardly believe anyone in past time had the time to build huge useless buildings, and if they did it was destroyed over the time
Third "What happen to your forests?" we plant them, we live in a desert, you expect a huge forest in a country that till recently was a desert.. you will be despointed sorry
I really feel you just read the "Big and fake" and went right off the rails ignoring everything else I said and reality on the side, because your posts just feel angry, not researched or checked
And hey I never called the US ugly and did not judge it at all, thats words you put by me
I visit the US a few times, and it again feels very commisial, its a feeling I got from it, not saying everyone or anything there can't be or is not interesting
Los Vegas lets say its a fantastic place to walk in, but its big and fake, from the chance to win to the buildings, but its brielnt on that
Or the west with the fake Wield west there that is in the end only ever was in movies
I live in a small country I still remember after visiting the US, our plastic cups look tiny, our milk comes commonly in 1 letter and the US has this huge 4 letters bottles and are common, you may not understand it if you did not travel to a country like my own but it is surreal in the end
Like I said there its all about the experience you want to feel
I did not say US is bad, I just said its different at least from my own feeling and I was in a few places and hope to go more around
But really please read this calmly.. I am not against the US
Also as a side point Israel is a fantastic place and. has its beautiful spots, less then the US.. but you know.. we are tiny compere so there is logic in it - +1 y
I'm not reading all of that. But you were making it sound like it's a bad thing that American people like everything big.

And in any case, I would say that the best thing to do as a traveller is avoid the big inner cities for anything more than passing through. You could make a debatable exception for some of the eastern European countries, but it's been pretty universal overall.

Which part? All major cities regardless of state (but especially California) should be avoided as much as possible. Culturally, the northeast, south, Midwest, west coast, southwest, Appalachians, Texas, Alaska, and Florida are pretty distinctly different, and you'll find every range of opinion on each of them. In my opinion, the mountain states are the best to visit, especially in the fall or skiing season, but for warm weather/summer vacations, then Florida, California, and Hawaii stand out (though I personally hate beaches and actually prefer Alaska or the rural mountain states like Utah and Montana for fishing and such instead). The Midwest into Appalachian states, Texas, and Florida are the best to actually live in.
Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yIt depends on how much money you have.
If you are super rich being in America is marginally better, except for the part where you are in America surrounded by Americans because they are all bat shit crazy.
On paper, its better.

The only thing we're the leader of anymore is disaster!!!
Europe is fine but if you're travelling to a different country you will need medical insurance.
