Did you lose any friends because of different political affiliation?

I feel really sad this year because my childhood friends as well as the friends I met in adulthood are the opposite of my political choice. I never thought in a million years that my childhood friends I've had for over 50 years would back away from me because they are Democrats and I am not. I didn't even talk about politics with any of them, and I guess that's what gave me away. I was cool and calm and unlike them and their blue wave they would
speak about. When I didn't say anything back about it and never put Trump down, that's when I quit hearing from. Needless to say, no Christmas cards went out this year, and I feel so empty without them in my life. But they've changed into people I don't care to keep in touch with, so, onward and upward, my life will go on.
How about you. Do you have any similar experiences?

My wife and I started attending a nondenominational Unitarian Universalist congregation in the nearby town shortly after we moved to this area about 20 years ago. We knew nothing about the area and wanted to meet people.

It was wonderful for 12 years or so. But more and more bay area, latte liberals began moving to the area and joining the congregation. The culture there started becoming "woke" Democrat club.

They lost their minds when Trump won in 2015. My wife and I started having less and less in common with the congregation members who believe politicians and mainstream media. It's hard to fathom such ignorance and lack of curiosity from college educated people.

When the congregation swallowed the covid propaganda hook, line and sinker, everything broke. People who we had known for 15 years and whom we thought were really close friends abandoned us because we didn't buy the covid propaganda and because we weren't "liberal" enough.

I've supported second amendment rights forever, even though I had what I thought were liberal values. So that was always a bone of contention.

Anyway, in answer to your question, yes, I've lost lots of friends over politics.

I'm now friends with informed, open minded, 60s/70s-style liberals who have abandoned labels and political loyalty. I'm also friends with lots of conservatives who, surprisingly, share a lot of my values.

Yes! Very early on! I was talking to Nigel, one of my ex-bass players, about 7 years ago and as soon as she found out I was for Trump, she refused to talk to me, anymore! There's been a number of others like that, too. You know how stupid dems are! Better to just believe EVERYTHING the media tells us than to ACTUALLY do SOME research and find out for ourselves what's REALLY going on!! And, even if you SHOW THEM PHYSICAL PROOF, they STILL refuse to believe you!!
Like, today. They finally got to see their precious Trump tax records which showed ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG and they STILL refuse to believe it!!

I don't discuss politics with my friends, especially because I'm not allowed to. So, no I've never lost a friend because of our political opinions/beliefs.

My entire birth family, with occasional attempts to reach out from my brother, have disowned me and cut me off because I told them where they could stick their covid passports after they decided and announced they wouldn't let anybody inside the house for dinner at Thanksgiving 2021. As I am the only person who didn't have a new world order passport in the family at the time it became immediately obvious that it was a targeted attack. I explained to them that I am unwilling to accept voluntary euthanasia as a condition of membership in the family, showed them the evidence available at the time (which in the interests of fairness was a lot less than is publicly available now) and they stopped talking to me at that point. If that's all it took to get them to give up on me how badly could I have needed them in my life anyways?

My sister and I are on opposite side of the spectrum politically speaking. I'm a cetrist where she is a left leaning individual. Some of the shit she says is borderline retarded. But when things are leaning to an argument. She will just go ok. Meaning there no point in continue the conversation and she I'll just go ok. I think if we all just do what my sister does there be a lot less issues in the worlf clearly we are never gonna change each other minds on certain topics. The main problem is she clearly doesn't respect any of my views but she does respect me as a person. So, I guess that is gonna have to be good enough.

Sort of. I used to have a friend who repeated the dumbest imaginable shit as “facts” but could never support his point. I warned him multiple times. He crossed the line and i cut him off. He was mostly a bar pal, so “whatevs”. I have had to limit exposure to multiple relatives and friends for blatantly ignorant reflections.

Can't lose friends for such an issue when I would never befriend a person with conservative views anyway. They wouldn't get along with me nor would I them so it's not worth it really.
There is people who say just don't talk about politics but that wouldn't really matter if we didn't because we would still see red flags in each others lifestyles and that would conflict.

Sadly yes. Had a number of folks decide to no longer associate with us after the 2016 election and then more still after the pandemic. It is sad, but let them make their choices.
