How do you deal with envy towards people that brags about their achievement?

if someone brags about it directly with you how would you react?

for exemple if someone says to you (I'm awesome because i did that thing that you really want to achivie but you can't because you are a failure!) how would you respond?

I would joke around and act like you know he is joking and then set out and do my thing well.
