I do. Every. Single. Day.
I dony really listen to the news I prefer to get stuff from 3rd party sources all the importent data with multiple sources
I will how ecer say depends where and how the news is made
I remmber hearing US vs UK news that was really intresting
As US news channels profit from ads they need views, so greatinv alarms and propogada is way to get views meaning be profitable
Then in the UK the news are getting money from the goverment (like bulk pay what ever you say), so no money from ads and so on mean that the news is nowmally more netural and to the point as there job is to give the news, views or no views11 Reply

+1 yI am suspicious of the things they say about foreign countries cause I know how outrageous their lies about China are so it makes me wonder if their comments about other countries are equally dishonest and fake. I trust some of the things they say about financial issues, since they have less political incentive to lie about that but I believe there is a possibility of deceit in everything they report in the news.

Yes the lies about China are amusing. I don't understand why

China is a great country

I think it's cause Justin Trudeau jailed an innocent Chinese CEO and China tried to make him look bad so he tried to make people hate China to make himself look better.

Yeah - I love their food and they are so selfless towards their family.

I am sure you have a point. People hate on many countries these days.

The whole point of propaganda is it is something rich people pay for so they can avoid paying their taxes. If it ever becomes cheaper to pay their taxes than to own several media empires, then they would just pay their taxes. So, there is a balance to the propaganda to make it the most effective but at the lowest cost. And the most effective is if the propaganda is entertaining, and video will always be more entertaining than text. But text is also cheaper so it isn't like the the propagandists leave it completely alone.
AP is a pretty straightforward source of information. It is all in text, though. In video news you're kind of on your own. MSNBC is the only source that is left leaning. Everything else has taken a shift to the right since Biden was elected. But nothing is really moderate anymore. I would say a general rule is if you find yourself entertained by the news then chances are good you could just turn it off.
Or at least that's how it used to be. Now that we have a party that seems to be actively threatening to tank the economy if they don't get what they want, it's hard to imagine how that won't at least be a spectacle, no matter how boring one may try to present it. If it were up to me every news station would just repeat over and over "remember, 3 million more people wanted this than wanted to stop it and in a democracy the majority gets their way. So we must stop our futile attempts to figure out how to avoid disaster and use iur energy tostart preparing for it, because it is the will of the people." Repeat repeat repeat so people are ready to face the consequences of 5 decades of political apathy.
10 Reply3.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Nah not unless your on facebook. Most news however is like a fine print, the headliner is probably just clickbait then when you read the actual article it will clear things up. Though that's exactly the clickbait working lol.
The reason to why this happens is a title is allowed to have creative licence, however the actual article is much more restrictive to stating just the facts. Tbh most news is disappointing because they never give enough information as most facts the reporter don't actually know or is not allowed to reveal.10 ReplyUm... well... yeah. I can guarantee that at least 85% of what one encounters either on TV or online is either distorted, misleading or just downright false. Especially when it comes to things like, for example, the war in Ukraine. Too many people have their obscene agendas to promote, and so I've decided that unless it's something truly earth-shattering (like an earth-shattering asteroid) I'm going to just ignore it.
Well, okay, with the exception of what that clown Prince Harry is doing. That at least is entertaining and funny :D
10 ReplyJust today they wrote in news that in my city they build a business district and 25,000 vehicle plaza and when I calculated the area of the parking plaza it couldn't park more than 2000 cars lol. So fake things are written and read almost everyday.
Anotger news was that Elon musk was telling that Robots are going to be a menace and that Japanese built 5 experiment robots and they killed 30 scientists and I found that to be fake too 🤣.
Most fake was the Billion tree tsunami in one of the province which doesn't even have the area the size to have that many trees lol. And people keep believing it to this day.

+1 yI felt that during Covid.
I followed every single rule and regulation and between 2022 and now, caught Covid 4 times while vaccinated sooo, I said fuck it. Covid can either kill me off, or I’ll just treat everyday as exactly that. A regular day.
In my personal experience I wouldn’t say it’s fake per say. However it’s a lot of misleading information and fear mongering.10 Reply
+1 yYup, news seems like entertainment rather than reality. It is very biased towards liberals too it seems... as if they can do nothing wrong ever.
The weather guy seems like he is guessing then explaining how he guesses and then is wrong most the time. A weather rock is more accurate.
It can be accurate in some things, but usually minor unimportant things.
10 Reply897 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Yes but for me it´s less in cases of the news that airs every hour or so. I have more issues with political talkshows. I don´t know if that´s a thing where you are but here in Germany. I often think they don´t have an interest to actually give more information and go deeper in the topic but instead they just purposely deliver an emotional argument after argument to distract people and give them political entertainment but no solutions.
10 Reply6.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No, because I have enough understanding of the world to separate the impossible and the highly improbable from stories that are consistent with known science and known facts on the ground.
To people who don't have some understanding of science and history, everything sounds alike, so they pick whatever makes them feel good.10 Reply12.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No, never.
It's just mostly opinions though. So never take it as gospel.
It's not "fake" as they are broadcast, and so need to meet professional and legal standards. It's also not so much propaganda as it is "shaped" by whoever is paying the wages of the corporation.
What you're forgetting is that "news" is a business like any other. The main objective of a business is to make money for shareholders.
10 ReplyThat is all the news is.
All you got to do is watch fox news and cnn and see it.
Both will spin a story to fit whatever side of the agenda they are on.
People have been using the news to brainwash and create societal normes for as long as news existed
10 Reply1.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. The weather report told me it would rain and that was true. The news told me there was an accident, and I got held up behind the accident, so I know that was true. So obviously not everything I hear on the news is fake.

+1 ydefinitely. thats why you should try to read it from multiple sources if you can. i also like going with independent media on youtube over the large corporate news channels. they seem less likely to spin things. a lot of them do do that but not as much as the big channels do.

+1 yIt's exactly what it is. Real 100% news is Who, What, When and Where and let the listener come to their own conclusion.
Now, specifically the 24/7 cable news source gives you a little bit of the facts and just have just pundits talk ish and give their opinions as if their opinions is "news"10 Reply - 472 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yI tend to stay away from the news as it tends to bombard you with one negative thing after another.
I prefer to plug away in my own little universe and focus on doing things that make me happy.
10 Reply - 4.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yNo, because I know how to double check my sources. If only one source is saying something then it's probably bogus, but if the majority are saying the same thing with multiple sources of evidence then you can trust the news.
10 Reply 5.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Pretty much. At best, you'll hear a very one-sided claim that lies about circumstances through omission of important details.

I do expect cover-ups, if A is huge in the media all of a sudden, someone might be pushing it to hide B even if A isn't relevant to most people.00 ReplyIf you never feel it at all that is a dangerous indication of impressionable complecancy.
