Do Americans live for War?

For as long as I can remember, the U. S. has always been involved in some kind of war. There are only three countries in the world that we've never had military involvement in. And look at the last couple years. Biden was boasting about how he doesn't wanna pass the War in Afghanistan on to a fifth president, so he ended THAT war, only two get involved in another one in Ukraine.

I was born in 1992, and it seems my whole life, the U. S. has been involved in one war after another.

Maybe the average population feels differently, but it seems like our government officials and generals live for war. It's like they feel lost and confused if they aren't involved in some war. And look at all these young people enlisting. It's like they're thirsty. My buddy actually complained that he didn't get sent to a war zone.

Americans in general seem to be obsessed with violence, and it almost seems as if they feel the opposite will destroy the balance of things.

I’m sure the reasons for America being at war so often is very complex and multilayered.


All we can do is speculate.


I believe it’s almost always 2 birds with 1 stone situations.


Let’s take the power and influence angle.


From the very beginning, The Revolutionary War was fought so America could establish freedom from British rule.


It was fighting that war that established that freedom.


At that point, America didn’t necessarily have the best economy or the best education system…


BUT, by having a powerful military, it was able to establish and protect its freedom.


Then with World War II, a lot of countries that did not have a powerful military were overpowered and subdued by Germany, Japan, and the Soviet Union. Their freedom was taken because they did not have the power to fight back.


Fast forward and we have countries that have an alliance with the United States, where the United States will step in if they are attacked.


If North Korea were to attack South Korea right now, the United States would intervene immediately, as promised.


By United States upholding their promise to protect their allies, it makes an alliance with the United States actually valuable. It means something. Because the United States is backing up those words with actions. It’s not just empty words.


That helps United State’s reputation in terms of taking military alliances seriously. And anyone choosing to side the the United States will have military protection and/or support from one of the world’s most formidable military forces (United States).


So, by intervening whenever allies are attacked, it strengthens United State’s reputation as a military ally. And/or, demonstrates how useful of a military ally the United States is.


Also, as a byproduct of military intervention, the United States also has more opportunities to further train and develop and strengthen their military. A military that never enters into battle will not be as prepared as a military that is often actively engaged in war. This keeps the United States’ military strong and battle-tested at all times.


Going back the Revolutionary War and World War II, it was the United State’s powerful military and its military alliances that protected its freedom.


So in conclusion… One angle to look at it is that the United States is very protective of its freedom and will go to great lengths to ensure that it has the world’s strongest military (e. g. Cold War).


The country was established through fighting, and it will continue to protect itself and its allies by being good at fighting. And it remains good at fighting through lots of funding and lots of practice.


(And allies are also happy to trade goods with the United States in exchange for military protection.)

Why this Powerful country with many Allies, fight to Russia to save its ally Ukraine, and against China and North Korea, a permanent threat?

It’s a tough situation. I believe Russia threatened to wage full scale war, which would mean nuclear warfare. It’s a tricky situation with Russia and all their nuclear weaponry. If Russia were to be taken down, it would likely have to be done covertly.

It could start World War III. I’d Russia were to wage nuclear war, Russia would not only use nuclear bombs on the United States, but other countries too. Millions more could die.

If you do nothing, your friend will die. But you save your friend, they will push the button and they will set off a bomb that will kill thousands of innocent people.

That’s option A and option B. Option C is not clear. One would need to find a way to outsmart the terrorist.

2 nuclear bombs were dropped. About 140,000 people died in Hiroshima because of one bomb. About 74,000 people died because of the other one.

Afghanistan did not participate in World War II.

But anyway, the fact is that during World War II, the total death count was over 70 million, across all countries.

Another world war would not be good. Nobody wants another world war.

I would say the opposite. They live for avoidance of war but politic gain. For example would they ever want war on their own soil? Hell no. But in some other country looking like they are helping? Sure sign us up.
Meanwhile other countries sure they would prefer it not on their own soil but it often is or a very nearby country out of own self interest. Russia attacks Ukraine knowing full well it puts them at risk and gives them no politic gain yet did it. Let's say South Korea attack North again putting themselves at risk and no politic gain.
Now do these countries technically gain more power for doing so sure but it's not exactly that great because they are not seen as heroes they are seen as villains, which has multiple impacts that weaken them as we've seen with Russia most recent actions.
But back to America what are they always aiming for? To be the good guys. Even the Vietnam war which America were Villains of no doubt they did it at first to look like good guys to try stop some Communist world wide take over that obviously wasn't happening but that was their story which made them once again look like heroes.

In much shorter words, USA has a saviour complex meanwhile Russia has a God Complex. Very different and one I would say is not living for war as you would think.

The military industrial complex is 100% a real thing and you cannot mention America's war history of the past 80 years without addressing it; the American populous has zero say or connection to that driving force.

It is not ingrained in our DNA to just wanna go on a rampage and kill people no. And not all Americans are assholes. Some of us just want to live exist and learn from other cultures on how to live and keep preservation. The crazy part is people that are not even born here make a far better living than people that are from here. The American dream was created by others not ourselves being here, gives us the edge of laziness, and I’m speaking for myself other people new worse dirt poor that’s why they’re able to survive here, but even being here trying to work through a system that was never built for you. Most Americans do not oppose war because we have never really seen it in our country and the American media does a fine job of censoring the realities of war in other countries ; they do not show the mangled bodies and burning buildings that are a result of the many US strikes on foreign soil. One reason that so many Americans were opposed to the Vietnam war ( apart from the military draft that existed at the time) was the fact that American media would show all the horrors of war up front to the US public - the dead and dying , the mangled bodies of dead children and their parents sobbing unconsolably over their dead children - the refugees it creates , the damaged infrastructure that leads to diseases and lack of food. There was a time that this was shown in the US media. Now everything is tightly censured by the US government and media reports are always in a way that paints the US military as the good guys and all of our military operations as noble acts that are carried out to save the world ( i. e. save democracy and other such bullshit)

I am confident that if the American media were to show the true reality of war most Americans would not be so gun-ho about it anymore. But I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

There are two industries that guarantee economic stimulation, war and construction. One commands the need for the other. So you can argue that war is the single greatest economic stimulus known to mankind. In addition, war tends to benefit the uber wealthy a great deal more than construction, and construction benefits the working class more than war. As for young people enlisting, there is actually an enlistment crisis currently, because the benefits of enlisting in the military no longer outweigh the risks. I got out 2 years ago, and that was the case then, and I imagine it's worst now as we near a recession that's apparently supposed to be comparable to the great depression. Next, yes, Americans love war, but also, the world is violent place, and while there is definitely lots of corruption that leads to wars, a lot of the wars we end up in, are preventative measures, or a larger play such as the Ukraine war. As a superpower country, war is inevitable. It's not always by choice that we end up in wars, tho at least half the time it is.

I would say we are a warlike people. We’ve been at war in the Persian Gulf (OP Desert Storm, OP Southern Watch (no fly zone), and OIF) from 1990 until very recently. Not to mention Afghanistan.


We’ve had roughly 12 major wars since this country was founded not to mention many small but significant military combat operations.


I wouldn’t say Americans live for war but I’d say we are a warlike people and are good at it.

America is an industrial-military complex. Albeit much of the industry has now been moved elsewhere, the USA is THE largest weapons manufacturing country in the world, by a long shot. Six of the top ten weapon producing companies are from the USA. They are: Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, General Dynamics, and L-3 technologies.

These companies hold great influence over government leaders, so wars, or extended deployments, or weapons aid to other nations, are always good for business. The American "people" don't want to fight other countries or factions except when the US government can successfully demonize them and stir up false patriotism or nationalism. Sure, there are a bunch of yahoos who live and breathe war, but the vast majority of Americans just want to fell safe and protected from their enemies, like any other people do.

I'm not going to defend every war that the US has fought, because some of them are indefensible. But the US takes seriously the responsibility it has to protect freedom around the world. We have allies we must protect in certain circumstances, and without our involvement countries like Russia, China and N Korea would feel free to do thing that would compromise freedom around the world.

War is never a good thing, but sometimes it's a necessary evil for countries who have responsibilities to allies and the resources to fight against evil.

Yup, Afghanistan people are very free thanks to us. Allies and NATO are one thing, but most of the time we get involved in non-allied countries.

And so what? As long as it doesn't comprise OUR freedom, I don't understand why it should be OUR problem. It's not our responsibility to defend other countries. If other countries can't defend themselves, that's their problem. Our military should only be used for defending OUR country.

The Vietnam War for instance and the Copus in Latin America. They were never about protecting the U. S. It was about. They were about American imperialism and forcing OUR ideology on other people. How different is America from all those Muslims who come to Europe and try to impose Sharia Law?

Not really. Americans are the only ones who believe that they're single handedly responsible for ending WWII. I can still make an argument for the Pacific, but most Europeans will laugh at this and you that Russia already did most of the dirty work in Europe before the U. S. got involved.
But also, if the U. S. was really as strong as it claimed, it wouldn't have felt the need to drop two atomic bombs on Japan.
