You would think after a few times they would learn a lesson and not go back.
I've never been to jail, but I know people who have. A lot of people in jail didn't have a very good life or support system growing up. If they get 3 meals a day, a stable place to sleep, and medical care, it's a step up in quality of life for some of them.
Imagine if you're in jail for even 6 months or a year. You've potentially lost you job, spouse, place to live, vehicle, etc. It can become very difficult to find work and impossible to make decent wages. Without a support system, they can't get back on their feet, so they turn to crime to get by or to purposefully go back to jail.
Some become institutionalized. They've grown so accustomed to life in jail they don't know how to live on the outside anymore. Some would also rather be in jail than have to work and make their own way. Jails aren't very big on rehabilitation either. They don't do much (if anything) to help prisoners learn how to live differently are reintegrate into society.
In some countries, militias will kidnap children and turn them into ruthless killers. What would you really expect from someone who grew up like that? With the parents some people have and evironments they grow up in, the concept really isn't that much different.

They are doing what the sub conscious programming in their mind tells them is ok. they go back to the same hell hole they came from, without reform, with the same stresses... and repeat the same behavior. standard human.
there is no reform... for them.

Jail and prison isn’t a deterrent to crime. That’s antiquated thinking. Statistically, incarceration increases the odds a person will reoffend. American jails provide woefully little in the way of rehabilitation or educational programming. So there’s little to better an offender economically or teach them the skills to break out of their behavioral patterns. New offenders are housed alongside career criminals and they learn to become better criminals from them. They leave jail and fall back into the same lifestyle, associating with the same people without better job prospects or the skills to succeed….. and they’ve learned to become a better criminal with more criminal associates than when they went in. Decades of research show the “law & order” approach makes us less safe, yet this country stubbornly sticks to it. It’s hard to fathom why.
I know a guy who was afraid to go to jail but the first time he did, he said it wasn't that bad and he lost his fear of it. He has been in and out of it dozens of times now, no fear.
I have never been to jail but I imagine having a criminal record could make it damn hard to get a job, which then people have to live somehow, they turn to crime to get by.

From what I know from "Squid games"
"Things are worse out here than in there."
The ones who wanted out of the games said and agreed. SOo they go back to the games.
I think these people do not believe they were jailed because they sinned - they think its because they were not intelligent enough or rich enough to avoid getting condemned for their sins.
Because it's damned hard to make a clean break and live legitimately after you've been to prison- witness Jean Valjean.
No or sub-par rehabilitation
No mental health treatment
For-profit, privately run prisons
Some of these folks have mental health issues so they tech can't and won't learn without assistance that they probably don't have access to.
Others that are just repeating bad behavior are because some people never learn.
Various reasons I suppose. Some people are addicted to a life of crime. Some people go to jail because it’s all they know and they don’t know how to be free. Some people are just stupid.
I genuinely think some people are too stupid to learn from their mistakes.
cops have always told me that 90% of the crime in a town is caused by the same 5 or 6 knuckleheads.
The system encourages repeat customers.
In fact, they insist on it.I think they go there meet with their pals and share info on how to steal a car in a more professional and efficient way
Employers associate criminal record with bad decisions.
Because they are immature and never grown up
Jails have routines and you dont have to worry about stuff
Cops are more aware of them, and they are determined to get away with it at least once.
I guess they don't think jail is so bad.
