There is evidence to suggest that providing free birth control can be more cost-effective than providing welfare benefits to support low-income families with children.

According to a 2014 report from the Guttmacher Institute, publicly-funded family planning services, including access to free or low-cost birth control, save taxpayers $13.6 billion each year by helping women avoid unintended pregnancies, which can reduce the need for other costly services such as prenatal care, infant care, and public assistance programs.

In contrast, providing welfare benefits to support low-income families with children can be expensive and may not address the root causes of poverty, such as lack of access to education and job opportunities.

It's important to note that birth control access and welfare benefits are both important tools for supporting families and individuals in need, and that the best approach may depend on a variety of factors, including the specific needs of the population being served and the available resources.

not offering to pay benefits when you have an illegitimate child would be the cheapest and would discourage "bad births". The argument that birth control is cheaper is a slippery slope. Loads of things would be cheaper if we give the irresponsible more and more things for free, but eventually the negative changes in their behavior due to the "new rules" would prove very costly. If we give free birth control, how much more promiscuous will they become and how many more Std's will they get that now the taxpayer will be asked to pay for the consequences? how much more Sexually "loose" will the culture become and what will happen to the marriage rate. More single mothers means more inequality and more welfare, etc.

Naturally ending benefits would be the most cost effective, but you have to realize the realities of living in a constitutional Republic conditioned for 5+ generations that big daddy government is going to pay your way through irresponsibility, and the practical realities of getting something like that passed. Baby steps. Nobody said anything about STD care. One of the problems with democracy in the modern era that ACTUAL democracy in Periclean Athens did not have was that the people who won't produce anything or make themselves useful in providing tax money are still allowed to talk about and vote on how it gets spent. Franklin lamented about the republic being over when people realize they can vote themselves a living instead of having to earn one, and I think we can all agree the constitutional republic as founded is today unrecognizable. To my fan club, Note I did not say can't I said won't.

Free birth control by a long shot. Unintended pregnancies are more prevalent among the poor. The state level abortion bans that are popping up are going to grow the welfare safety net even more. Birth control pills are cheap. Just providing them for free to the poor and uninsured would save the taxpayers a lot in the long run.

Take away the welfare and people regulate their own behavior. That would be the most cost effective action. Reproduction of poor babies is artificially stimulated through social programs. Kids cost money. Social programs and minimum wages also promote non participation as a productive member of the economy.

Rising minimum wages has made this a reality... Over 5 million people work in fast food restaurants.

The Democrats are doing their work-around on that one. Make as many children into transgender people as they can. There by spaying and neutering them. No birth control needed. Problem solved!

Are you saying it's legally possible to extract support payments without proof of paternity? Wouldn't that proof be the most basic legal requirement to establish an obligation to pay?

If you want a real eye opener, do a search for prior questions about mandatory paternity testing and check out the responses by women. Most women believe it is their God-given right to commit paternity fraud.
