Biden wants to do an assault weapons ban. What is an assault weapon?

There is no concise legal definition of what an 'assault weapon' is.
In 1984, a group called Handgun Control, Inc. first used the term “assault weapon”.
A few years later, in 1988, the term rose in prominence after Josh Sugarmann, a gun control advocacy group’s communications director, stated in a Violence Policy Center paper:
“The weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons - anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun - can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons.”
This statement by a prominent gun control lobbyist outlined their intentions clearly. The goal behind popularizing the term “assault weapons” was always to deliberately mislead the American people in order to pass anti-gun legislation.
The use of the term "assault weapons" exploded in the years to follow, eventually catching on in the mainstream media, who used the adopted phrase to cause further confusion.
It helped gun control advocates garner support to pass the 1994 federal “assault weapons” ban — and the plan succeeded. The ban lasted for ten years until it expired in 2004 after Congress determined the ban had no impact on reducing crimes committed with guns.
World War 1 Germany invented the assault rifle, World War 2 Germany perfected it.

"The MP 18, manufactured by Theodor Bergmann Abteilung Waffenbau, was arguably the first submachine gun used in combat. It was introduced into service in 1918 by the German Army during World War I as the primary weapon of the Sturmtruppen, assault groups specialized in trench combat. Although MP 18 production ended in the 1920s, its design formed the basis of most submachine guns manufactured between 1920 and 1960."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP_40
"The MP 40 (Maschinenpistole 40) is a submachine gun chambered for the 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge. It was developed in Nazi Germany and used extensively by the Axis powers during World War II. Designed in 1938 by Heinrich Vollmer with inspiration from its predecessor the MP 38, it was heavily used by infantrymen (particularly platoon and squad leaders), and by paratroopers, on the Eastern and Western Fronts as well as armored fighting vehicle crews. Its advanced and modern features made it a favorite among soldiers and popular in countries from various parts of the world after the war."
Technically it is any fully automatic weapon (machine guns) which is already outlawed, thus assault weapons are already outlawed.
Of course, there is the scary factor though... liberals think if it is scary looking it is a assault weapon.
They don't like the modular AR-15's because they have several main pieces that can easily be interchanged to customize it.
It is popular because of that very reason, when a gun becomes more popular then it will be used in more crimes.
Good news for Biden the fool though is that he'll find out that Assault weapons are already banned.
Ah this old chestnut. I know what you're getting at, you want an exact specific definition with measurements n shit. 2mm out and it doesn't qualify.
Here's the problem. The minute Biden lists the characteristic of a banned weapon the makers will just tweak it slightly to get around the law. A much better way would be to ask what the gun is designed for and why they are being bought. If the intention is to assault then it is an assault weapon

Any weapon used in an assault. (In some areas, it would be considered a battery, if the terms are used separately and in their original meanings, ie, assault meaning a threat, and the battery meaning the completion of the action of that threat).
At any rate - The term per se is BS. Free people really need to learn the difference among single-action arms, semi-automatic arms and fully automatic arms. Semi's have been ruthlessly misattributed as being full auto's, etc. If these people can't even begin to understand the terminology, they shouldn't be throwing around terms that are wrong by definition, just to keep people in a state of confusion.
Maintain the Second Amendment and we will stand a chance of surviving. Ironic, isn't it? The Declaration of Independence proclaimed the US to be free of control. Now it has come full circle and we will be falling under control once again, if we aren't careful.
Could it be a dueling pistol?
No such thing. It's a made up leftist term. By the way, apparently our idiot white house resident has never heard of the 2nd amendment.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"
Of course he does. If he did there would be an assault weapon ban tomorrow. Its like gun manufacturers are donating to his election campaign because he just upped gun sales in 2023 by 30%
What is sad is that the FBI knowingly allows people that shouldn't have guns to own them. Then they talk about national gun registers as if the FBI, ATF and homeland security hasn't already every single firearm in the country accounted for and don't know who gun owners are, what they had for dinner, what porn they watch, who they talk to on social media etc
Allow to own? You can’t go there because there’s some that should never be parents because they’ll neglect their children. You can’t allow some to be around children because they might want to sexually abuse them. Who is this “ALLOWING” authority that has all omnipotent power that can see into the future?
Actually if you look at the majority of these shooters the warning signs are a there.
Parents who abuse or neglect their kids get then taken by social services.
There are people who can't be allowed around children because they might abuse them ie child molesters or child porn criminals can't work in elementary schools.
Criminals forgo the right to bear arms as well as vote. People with serious mental health issues are not allowed to have knives in many cases. Drunk people are not allowed to drive vechiles or operate heavy machinery.
Atheist Devin Patrick was responsible for the Sutherland Springs church shooting. Prior to this he assaulted his wife and fracturing his toddler stepson's skull and was in a mental institution. He legally bought forearms to commit this mass shooting.
It's ilegal to drive and operate heavy machinery, you will be prevented trying if authorities are aware.
We can't yet define it, so let's ban it! They make up a term, make everyone believe it's the scariest thing ever, then ban it. Then, they'll have opened the door and can ban anything they want.
A weapon owned by someone leftists thinks should own a weapon to protect themself.
Guns, knives, pepper spray, a blunt object that might be used to hit someone, non-blunt objects that might be used to stab someone (a broken sign for example) necklaces or other things that can be used to strangle someone, vehicles that might hit or even drive over someone. Lots of ways to assult someone sadly.
An assault weapon is anything that is used to attack and harm another individual. Could be a gun, a baseball bat, crowbar, a pointed stick, etc. It is not singled out or defined as AR15 like the progressive and left want it to be.
"any of various automatic and semiautomatic military firearms utilizing an intermediate-power cartridge, designed for individual use"
"An intermediate cartridge is a rifle/carbine cartridge that has significantly greater power than a pistol cartridge but still has a reduced muzzle energy compared to fully powered cartridges, and therefore is regarded as being "intermediate" between traditional rifle and handgun calibers"
Ok that’s still not defining. We have rifles/carbines that are.22 rimfire to 45/70 government to 460 Weatherby among others. What’s a defining “intermediate” cartridge? We have carbines that use traditional pistol calibers and we have handguns that use traditional rifle cartridges
The government will decide what to ban. It's not that hard to understand
You'll still have access to guns.
As far as I'm aware there is no current ban on any guns on a federal level in the USA. But if you live there you may know more than i
Which one?
What is the legislation/bill?
@FeelingGroovy I feel like you think you did something with this but it just shows the ignorance of the question. The definition is broad and the government would have to create a list for the legislation of what weapons they believe should be banned.
Oh, I'm sorry. I was talking about the USA. Yes, in your country it's quite confusing.
@FeelingGroovy it's not really
I'm happy for you.
Most worthless piece of shit leftists can't even define what that is... Because there is no such thing. That man needs a nursing home, Not the presidency.
I'm about to do a biden banned with my assault weapon
An inanimate physical object cannot be a verb. That is the end of it.
What happened at the Nashville Christian School was a hate crime perpetrated by a Trans fanatic... the She/He killed kids because of the Transexual Agenda.
If it’s big and scary looking.
Black in color: scary
Big: scary
Has been seen in a movie: way scary
Yup. Wood isn’t scary. Unless it looks like an AK-47. Biden’s watched Red Dawn.
If you see where I’m going with it

Biden's pick for the AFT is clueless.
No I don’t. You will define an assault weapon. My 1911 pistol for example came about from the piss poor performance of the 38 caliber revolvers our military was issued during the Mexican American war. As it turned out our new 1911 pistols were KILLER invading trenches and close quarter combat that defined WWI. So is my 1911 that is also my avatar that I’m shooting at my range also an assault weapon?
It is like a stabbing knife.
