Let's say in this scenario, it's all genders that have to register.

I did four years of service and still have three years left on my ready reserve commitment, so it doesn't really apply to me. If I'm recalled, I'll gladly go; but, the Army may not take me back with a small child unless I have an airtight family care plan.

Last I knew, having a Selective Service System costs the taxpayer $24M annually - that's a lot of money just to have a list. There's been a lot of talk about eliminating the Selective Service System altogether since we have 50 years experience manning the forces with volunteers, even while engaged in several conflicts simultaneously. Throwing large sums of money at people as incentives for enlistment seems to have been the most effective tactic. There's also been a lot of talk about how - or even if - we could implement a draft if we wanted to. That would entail establishing local and regional draft boards, establishing new classification criteria, and making actual selections. In a crisis, there wouldn't even be time to put all the working parts together.

As far as women registering for the draft, sure, why not? I find it amusing that those who squawk the loudest about women not having to register are usually ones who haven't served, and have no intention of ever doing so.

I do not need to register. If that changed and there was a draft and I was told I had to go or be arrested, I might choose to be arrested instead. I do not think anybody should be drafted. If there is a war worth fighting people will volunteer, if people won't volunteer, it is not worth fighting. However I really do not think it makes sense to draft me because I guarantee I would just be a minus as far as actually trying to fight anybody. If there was some big war like World War 2 where everybody feels in it together and we're fighting a strong enemy, I would be happy to help somehow that makes sense like maybe I could work in a factory or be a nurse, but me fighting anybody would be subtraction by addition. JMO!

I was facing the draft near the end of the Viet Nam conflict. Since it was likely that I would be selected, I chose to enlist which gave me the choice of which service, and at least a chance of getting into the field I desired. I ended up in a different job which I did not really enjoy that much, but after finishing my two year mandatory active duty plus reserve time, I decided the military was not a bad job, and the job I had been doing was not that bad. I re-enlisted and was able to make a couple of shifts to get into a field I wanted to get training and experience. I ended up serving 20 years of active duty plus my reserve time. It was not a bad career, and I saw a lot of the world.

I'd go, depending on who re-instated it, lol. And yeah, that makes a difference because when it comes time to pulling troupes out of war, if it's not done correctly or too fast, it can cause problems.

But yeah, for the most part, I'd go. If it was for an unwinnable war that was due to political corruption and poor decision making, probably not though.

People go to war for the wrong reasons!

It makes no sense to pretend that mass conscription is even possible, much less desirable, and even less to pretend that mass conscription of women of childbearing age, a significant number of whom are already mothers.

Even if I were 20, I have no interest in fighting these largely BS wars we fight, especially with a government that arranges for the invasion of its own country.

That depends: are we being invaded by an adversary or domestic insurgency or this another pointless war on the other side of the world? I will fight to defend my home but I will not throw my life away for something stupid like Veitnam or Bush's war in Iraq.

I live in a contry we still got an active draft, so guess can't really give an answer
But will say here at least wanted to go, but they kind of blocked me, could have fight it, but not sure that will have been worth it
