When I was in school, I learned that Betty is 10 years older than her sister Sarah. Sarah is 8. Therefore, Betty must be eighteen.

This is because:
B = S + 10
S = 8
B = 10 + 8 = 18

Is this because we want Sarah to go out and milk the cows while we play with Betty's milk jugs?
