1) The physical standard test precludes many women from becoming state troopers.

2) The math test is failed disproportionately by certain ethnic groups in Maryland.

So, what do you think. Are math tests for Troopers racist, or should they be able to do basic math?

DOJ was looking into if the tests conducted were fair and found that the tests in particular were skewed against female candidates also African American candidates too which led to an apparent settlement…. Calling “racist 5th grade math” is too dumfounded for me to even think of because it was just an investigation which led to a collecting of evidence which led to a settlement. Whether the settlement was to hide someone’s guilt / make it all go away is up in the air to give you some leeway though definitely not about “racism” about 5th grade math questions….
I found no mention of that.

They found the written portion of the test was discriminatory towards African American individuals and the physical test was skewed away from female individuals. For simply failing to base these applicants on the responsibilities & if they could perform duties of being a trooper those practices were legally determined to have went against the Civil Rights Act, specifically Title VII. That is all.

What portion of the written test was deemed to be most inappropriate for troopers. It was the math section. What difficulty is the math section. 5th grade level. The test is online. You can check it yourself. 9% of white test takers failed the math section and 30% of black participants failed the math section. This is why it was determined to be racist. It's all in the report.
