The wet market story was to cover up what Fauci and the Chinese did. Trump was the first one to insist it came from the Wuhan lab. He already called it the China Virus much to the dismay of liberals. It looks likeche was right on all counts.

When the virus was first being discovered, one of the doctors researching the earliest known cases was Dr Zhang Jixian.

He had discovered a number of closely associated patients from the Wuhan area that all had contracted nearly identical symptoms of a new virus.

He informed his hospital, and the hospital reported it to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in the Jianghan district of Wuhan.

So, Wuhan doctor, Wuhan patients, Wuhan CDC. When the outbreak became globally known, that was the best information available, at the time, to establish an origin point. Thus, that's what was reported, and that's what stuck.

That was well before the lab leak theory, but this was not the first coronavirus ever discovered. Certain properties were known about others, including their ability to jump from animals to humans.

Since there is a wet market in the area where the cases were localized, at the time, it seemed like a reasonable suspicion that it came from there.

The original determination that it came from the market was made due to the recent history of the patients examined by Dr Jixian.

He was not concerned about the possibility of the lab leak, at the time, because, as far as I know, none of his patients worked there. They had visted the market, and eaten food from there, though.

So, according to the information he had, at the time, the market was the most likely possibility, and that is what he was concerned with at that point. He had no reason to suspect the lab, based on the information he had then.

It's possible that it did come from the lab. It's possible that it came from the market.
I'm not here to debate theories. You asked how we "knew" it came from the market at the time. I've told you why that was the prevailing thought back then.

I believe this idea was promoted by a guy on YouTube named Ralph Smart who goes by the title infinite waters online. He had millions of viewers and his viewers promoted what he said. It even affected nurses who wanted to stop the vaccination cause they believed Ralph Smart.
