Are holidays fair?

Unless you work for the government you did not get Juneteenth off with pay. There are many other holidays that government employees get a day off with pay while the rest of us pay for it. Is this fair,? How could we make this a more fair system? The government is supposed to work for us, not the other way around.

If it's not government it's a private owned business. So if you started a business you are arguing you should pay for their holiday's off at your own expense on days that governments do.
Which I agree with because I am socialist. But you are conservative so pretty sure you would prefer you been the owner shouldn't have to pay down like that.

Because overall this would just mean business owners have to pay even more fees to their employees.

Or you could go the other way no one gets paid for holidays while working for the government but that's just taking away money from people and letting the government keep it... which is also not what conservatives want.

So either way from conservative view it ain't gonna be ever fair.
From a left view it's fine either way.

You are not taking money away from people and giving it to the government. What adding an extra holiday does is cause the taxpayers to pay every single government employee a days pay for nothing. The money has to come from someplace of else the government has to print more of it which causes more inflation. An both cases it is bad for citizens,

What you just said made no sense. Unless you think government employee's are not taxpayers and citizens therefore it just loops. Which is just how society works. They get paid by their own taxes if ya think about it, then if they get paid by other's taxes oh wells they gonna spend it anyway which then will go to someone else, when then eventually will go back to government through taxes.

It's a sustainable way to filter money in fact that's probably the reason why they doing it rather than a free day off from the kindness of their heart. The motive behind it is probably just to keep society more sustainable not less because who on earth would that benefit to make it worse?

The insurance company I worked for gave us all the government holidays off with pay. I treasured those holidays.
We also worked 9 hours a day from Mon-Thurs and got off at 1:00 on Fridays.
Plus, we had amazing vacation benefits.

On holidays that fell on Monday, I would spend 4 vacation hours to take Friday off to have a four day weekend.

Hahahaha, I worked as the technology director for a school district. I didn't gat the whole summer off like the teachers did but I never had so much time off in my life.

Nobody ever got rich working in education but our high school principal told me it was one of the few ways that you can have a job and also have a life.

My principal is queen of multiplying work to kelp us busy. Extremely inefficient way…so that we can be working as hard as her.
She works from 7am-6pm. Emails us evenings and weekends and works the whole summer. Glad she is finally “retiring” or being “kicked”out after 5-6 years of being rated the lowest principle from the district.
So much drama working with women.
Your principal makes more sense.

I got it “off” but at my job there is always work to do. I’m paid on salary. It’s about getting the job done whether is a 20 hour work week or a 80 hour work week.

In theory I don’t have a huge problem with Juneteenth in itself. But the ways things are going I’m wondering what’s next with this DEI insanity. Is it going to turn into a week or a month where minorities get to take the entire time off with pay?

I would like to think that would never happen. But all this talk of “reparations” bs makes me wonder. It’s already happening in San Francisco (good luck getting tax payer money to pay for that bs).

Government employees also get pensions. Most private ones don't, or get a pittance compared to what civil servants get. But then politicians can be abject failures and then vote themselves raises, so it might as well be a different planet.

my partner does not work for the government and still got the day off so that's not completely true. i didn't get the day off, but he did. i guess your work just didn't want you guys to have off. depends on the company from what i've seen today.

That is true. I worked for the state for 16 years and I used to do maybe an hour of real work a day.

Well, I was off but then I’m off every Monday. But my company does pay holiday pay for Juneteenth, so I will get holiday pay for yesterday. And those that actually did work at my company yesterday will get time and a half for working yesterday

First, you didn't mention how many days of vacation they get in addition to the federal holidays.

I only get 6 holidays but I have 26 other days of vacation.

I also make significantly less when I moved into the government sector, so the tradeoff is the vacation time and federal holidays.
