I don't think it was acgood war. It just made things worse. America should take care of their own energy needs and get out of the middle east. There has not been peace there in over 2000 years and there won't be any peace in another 2000 years.

I opposed it when it was being SOLD... and that's what it was... sold! I heard the rumoers way before the decision that it was a "done deal" and the military was being loaded up, it's only a matter of the justification to the public. The mistake was hiring Bush as President, that about guarnateed a war in Iraq. Saddam threatened Bush's father, he paid revenge... it's that simple.. that's the emotional motive that biased the decision. Pick someone else, I doubt we'd have war. not saying there wasn't some concern about WMD's... there was for decades, but it takes only a little bit to bias a decision towards war. It was not necessary. The stupid people of USA, primarily in churches... and I know some, which are mind controlled all too much... as I saw it happen in church and about made me puke, voted him because of their beliefs. The deaths and misery are on their hands, sadly they've all rung their hands of it... more puke. That's how I feel about it, they should all be beaten with sticks or have to send a child into war. What an F'd up mess we are... americaca.

That said, we can't compare the now to if it never happened. But to me, it was a big fat unnecessary mistake that should not be repeated. But we are...

It was an appalling foreign policy error of the neo-Trotskyite neoconservatives. Believing that constant agitation would present opportunity to amass power, they sowed chaos. But once chaos is sown, outcomes are difficult to control. We baited Hussein into invading Kuwait (had a diplomat tell him the US had no objection) then turned on him in order to advance the “new world order.” Both Iraq wars were sold to the public with outright lies. The first lie was that Iraqi troops were killing Kuwaiti babies (turned out the “refugee” who testified to that in Congress was the daughter of a Kuwaiti official). The second time around we were told Iraq had an active WMD program and supported al-Qaeda.

Hundreds of thousands were killed or starved over decades due to the USG’s military adventurism. The real reason? Hussein was looking to trade oil for non-dollar currencies. Same thing that caused the regime to take out Ghaddafi. Did the outcome advance US or Israeli security goals? No. Between the Iraq and Syria disasters, the outcome is a string of governments sympathetic to Iran and Russia that run from Tehran to Beirut and US troops isolated in east Syria, with no friends in sight, in charge of stealing Syria’s oil.

I assume you are talking about the 2nd war when we took out Saddam and toppled the government. I understand how it happened, Saddam had chemical weapons and the U. S. feared he'd hand them over to terrorists and after 9-11 the terrorists were a bigger threat than ever.

Saddam had to destroy all the weapons as part of the cease fire from the 1st War to free Kuwait. He chose to be dodgy and always deny inspectors access and would only grant access after threats and force being immanent. He chose to play cat and mouse and to not prove beyond a shadow of doubt they were all destroyed. He kept being secretive as if he still had some.

No weapons being found after the war makes it all seem to be a mistake. But, there was really no way to know based on his actions which were to make him look strong as if he were standing up against the foreign power.

The main mistake was how the U. S. wasn't ready for the chaos once the war ended and the occupation began. The U. S. needed to be much stronger and prepared to keep the order and not remove all the police and soldiers who could secure the country. Not being ready for the insurgency was the main mistake.

Based on how Saddam behaved it is hard to call the war a mistake. He brought that upon himself.

That's when he had them. By the time we got there you no longer had them. Additionally, it is really questionable as to whether or not he used any gas on his own people or whether it was used by somebody else, like perhaps the US.

No. It was based on lies. Millions of Iraqis dead for no reason and it fueled Islamic terrorism.

What was it for and who got rich?

The Taxpayer paid for the invasion and US occupation. The Iraqis paid for the rebuild and private security with their oil which went to China and the Iraqis bought weapons from US companies. The bidding for the rebuilding of Iraq went to a US company with links to the Bush regime.

US foreign policy is to create the problem then come along to solve it.

I think the war was justified, because Saddam was in violation of too many resolutions. Had to either invade or disband the U. N. I think removing him from power was a mistake though. Democracy doesn't work for some people.

I do think the world is a better place without Saddam in it. But in hindsight I do think the price to achieve it and the end result was too high to pay.
