This is such a great question!

I wasn't aware or hadn't noticed that corporate logos are switching to black and shades of gray. And it's true that businesses that were once eye catchingly colorful now look more industrial.

I never liked concrete, steel and glass high rises. They look cold and imposing.

I think of the contrast between utilitarian, gray, oppressive, Soviet-era or communist East German apartment blocks and cities versus the vibrancy of traditional buildings like the Kremlin or cities all over the world from Africa to Asia to Europe to Latin America where vibrant reds, greens, yellows and blues charm the eye. There are so many examples that we know of from antiquity - Mesopotamia, Egypt, Minoa, China - where the interiors and exteriors of monumental structures were colorfully detailed. Opulent color was a sign of affluence.

The video you shared listed a few examples of regions that are known for their breathtaking charm and beauty.

Once I moved out on my own, I lived apartments with white, monochrome interiors until I was 48 when my wife and I moved into our own home. I was anxious to paint the rooms of our house. I love the rich colors and color combinations we chose for the different rooms. We even used faux texturing on some of the walls and ceilings.

On one side, art and design is not limited to certain colours. Anything can pretty much be made "fashionable" so having a phase of grays, black and white is perfectly normal. On the other, you at looking at the results of capitalism. Corporations are not here for the benefit of us people so they dont care about making things "pleasing to our eyes" when they build the next glass and concrete monstrosity.

But there is another angle to this too. Why dont people paint their homes in bright colors? Because that would impact on their property value and most people keep that in mind when building or renovating which means they always choose boring and bland colours and designs so that they can get the most money out of it when they sell it.

Same thing with most mass produced products. You want to make things as simple as possible while at the same time sell as many of something as you can. Easier to make something of only 1 colour than 2 colours. If you need to choose 1 colour that most people will accept if not love, which one would it be? White, black or gray. And if you splurge a bit and make 3 different colours of your product, what colours would they be? White, black and gray.
