50-75 years ago, there were significant regional differences and we developed caricatures of what a Southern girl, or a California girl, was like. Those differences were perpetuated because our early exposure was limited to people within our own regional subculture. However, the proliferation of digital transmission of entertainment and arts has eroded most of the regional differences. There are still pockets of regional subculture but they are rapidly disappearing; however, the MSM tries to hold on to the stereotypes of regional culture, and what you might see in the MSM is not truly representative of our current culture. The internet is the great equalizer!

@OlderAndWiser I would say that the sexual revolution really equalized everything. Now everyone is the same: whores. No matter if they're Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, or what have you. They're all part of the hookup culture. And it doesn't matter what state they live in, either. Or whether they're urban or rural.

Not as much as there used to be, as culture has become mucn more national and even global. However, differences by region were pronounced in the past, and to a lesser extent are still there.
