Why do Christian parents in the US either ban their kids from watching the news or tell them alternative facts? Other than the "the news is all fake"?

Presumably because the media and entertainment industries have embraced the new religions which can only see the world one way and are intolerant and exclusive of other views.
Such parents seek to reduce such influences in favour of what they see as more wholesome, traditional values of their choosing.

Because they don´t trust the media. Many of those Christians are conservative while most media stations are progressive. Their view on world is different and they want to prevent their children of watching something they consider harmful.
