This isn't an issue exclusively for the United States, it has become a worldwide problem, due to wars, climate change, famine, dictatorships, overpopulation...

- The poor people of Africa try to migrate into Europe/UK

- The poor people of the Americas try to migrate into the USA

- The poor people of Asia try to migrate into Australia/NZ

Apart from a stricter border regime, realistic immigration paths and massively improving the situation in the home countries, I have no magic solutions to suggest. The USA should start by prohibiting all weapons sales to Mexican/LATAM cartels, a step so obvious and overdue that it boggles the mind.
