We have a Tale of Two States. California has the most personal and business income taxes while Florida has Zero.

California pays more than 45% per pupil expenditure than Florida does yet Florida public school students score better than their west coast counterparts.

California has lost the most residents while Florida has gained the most.

California has a homeless population of 171,000 people while Florida's homeless is 24,000.

Then we have DeSantis's policy on shipping illegal aliens to Martha's Vineyard while Newsome signs them all up for welfare.

I don't necessarily care for either of them.

I'm sure Gavin Newsome has had some crappy policy decisions but since I don't know I'll have to do some policy research (as seen later in my response). There is a big homelessness problem but that also ties into the state having a high income from the huge companies in California. Though he claims his policy focus involves fixing the homelessness problem, he should do better I'm sure he could.

I agree with him on many policy positions including abortion, the death penalty, healthcare, marijuana, reduced college debt, a better system for registered voters (but not exactly mail-in ballots in my opinion)
I don't agree with the way he tries to cut on crime (bolstering funds of the police), his view on school choice (just doesn't work & causes problems with public schools), and "SMART GUNS" sounds ridiculous but an interesting but too restrictive 'solution'?

Ron DeSantis on the other hand is a nutcase, in my opinion, and I don't agree with almost anything he's promoted. He runs on lies especially about abortion, opposes same sex marriage, backed a bill (FADA, H. R.2802) that supports discrimination on the basis of religion regarding treating single/unmarried people and lgbt+ people equally via the federal government. He believes unregulated, highly financed policing is the solution (what we have now on steroids) to crime, believes felons shouldn't receive any right to vote once released, is a strong advocate for death penalty (even w/o trial). Against Americans learning about the racist history of the United States, doesn't see healthcare as a right. Only thing I agree with is investing in workforce programs and promoting workforce integration with higher ed. but he doesn't actually care about that since he's focused on banning class content and books he doesn't like. Also he is against the people boycotting what they don't believe in (Israel doing a genocide on the Palestinian people) and equals Israel hate with anti-Semitism. (even though the government was about to become authoritarian in nature before Oct 7)

To me, DeSantis is everything the US doesn't need. As a lefty I wish the US would just be at its absolute worst for other Americans to see the problems but people are going to die saying its someone else's fault and many are going to die because we aren't making good enough changes. It takes education to fix crap like this and that's getting undermined regularly so I'm borderline hopeless.

California is the best place to live, but only if you've got real money. My family is from California. We moved when I was 14 because of the crime, the drugs, the unemployment, low wages, high rents, high property prices, corruption and high state & local taxes.

My aunt & uncle move their families from the small town where they lived very happily. A company bought a vineyard so they could drill a well and steal the town's water. Their homes weren't worth anything because there was no water for anything, just bottled water and this is happening all over california where politicians like Newscome allowed companies to come in an steal californians water. Like during the long drought in california these massive food producers were producing record amounts of crops, crops that are suited to california because they need so much water.

Newsome is absolute shit as a governor. DeSantis is one of the best governors in the country. It's not even close in that respect.

That said, Newsome doesn't have much to lose, but could potentially solidify his political future just by getting some soundbytes; he doesn't even really need to perform "well," and can literally just lie through his teeth about his own record from start to finish without much fear of recourse. He is clearly favored by the party elite for a future presidential bid, and there's a lot of signs pointing towards him as a last minute replacement for Biden. That probably won't happen (successfully) if Ron cleans his clock though.

For DeSantis however, floundering here will tank his already struggling presidential bid, not just for 2024 but even 2028. A slam dunk doesn't do much for him as governor since he's already in his second and final term, but it could *maybe* open the doors to repairing his relationship with Trump since he's losing the support of the never-Trump donors to Nikki Haley, which means finding a way to ride Trump's coattails again will be his only path to overcoming the financial support obstacle going forward.

Democrat vs Conservative. In a typical debate, most people will give the Democrat the win, because the Democrat will say more things that impress them. like the government giving them more money. But a careful analysis of the debate may actually have the Conservative win on the merit of the arguments.

I think the same thing will happen here. Most people will give the debate win to Gavin Newsom, while Ron Desantis will impress the heavy thinkers who do a detail analysis of the debate.

I didn't vote for either, because, as my comment says, in the end, they both will win.

Anyone with a working brain would want DeSantis to win over "Any Twosome Newsom", so, mathematically, Newsom will win. Newsome did his best to destroy San Francisco, and then went on the destroy California. He's every liberal's dream, so he will probably even beat out Joey, for the presidency.

I think that would be an interesting debate if one sided. Newsome really doesn't have too much to run on.

So we can see how he tried to defend his policies in California and go after DeSanti's Florida policies and vice versa. So far people are voting with their feet for DeSantis so this is kind of already decided regardless of what people say sounds best.
