Neighbor won't stop letting her kid run?

I understand he's special needs but shouldn't she put him on meds or still give him structure? Is it really fair to hear a 5 year old run, jump, stomp and throw himself across a wood floor above me at all times day and night? Why isn't she doing anything about it?

Man that sucks, sounds super frustrating! With special needs kids it can be really tough to get them structured sometimes. Maybe go talk to the mom personally and see if you can work something out, coming at her annoyed probably won't help. Tell her how the noise is affecting you and see if you can brainstorm ideas together - like only running during certain hours, putting down rugs, or maybe there's support programs she doesn't know about. If she still doesn't do anything then you might have to involve someone higher up like the landlord. But give her a chance to fix it first since it's probably not easy raising a kid like that on her own. Hopefully you guys can find a solution that works for everyone.

Talk to her about it if you can. Otherwise report it to management. People saying kids at 5 are just like that, no they’re not all like that. It’s a lack of discipline in a lot of cases. My son never acted like that when we lived on the 2nd floor. A lot of times the kid is a reflection of the parents.

i don't think this is just a special needs thing, this is what most 5 year olds do. also. 5 year olds don't need meds... they have tons of energy. i feel like this is more of a her problem than her 5 year old's problem because she isn't parenting correctly or teaching him how to get out his energy in better ways

As much as parents of special needs kids expect sympathy & empathy from others, they should also extend a little bit of consideration towards people in their surroundings.
