What's the limit so they don't call it "woke"?
2.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Alright so you are worried about right wing attacks, not left wing attacks.
There is one primary thing the right wing cares about, REALISM / IMMERSION.
Every character has to belong there, why are they black? Why are they female? And if you are going there make them believable not token characters. The part we dislike is when it feels fake, like when a TV show has an obvious diverse cast because its needed for diversity. Not when that cast has reasons to be that cast. When women are replacements of men but act like men rather than their personality fitting the gender. You can't just race and character swap, if someone is black they have probably had different upbringing. If someone is female she has different strengths and weaknesses.

Asker+1 yInteresting... why should black people give explanations that other races don't need? If I create my own magical universe and my characters are black, do I need to explain why black people exist? Um... never whites or Asians do that. If a white artist creates his own universe and in the story everyone is white, it was because the author wanted it. If an Asian artist creates a story in which the protagonist dies and is reincarnated in another world/universe and everyone there is Asian or white there is no explanation for that, they are just white or Asian. I found this thing interesting that black people need to explain the existence of black characters if they create their own universe...
Asker+1 yPlease explain how women and black people should behave? Which roles can you play and which are prohibited in your opinion?
- +1 y
No you are understanding me wrong. You don't outright explain it in the story and its not race bound it applies to everything. The question why they are what they are has to do with creating depth for your characters. If the black / female character makes sense people won't call it woke.
Make them behave within the realms of their real world counterparts. Don't write a white man and then decide to swap him to a black women. You are the writer here, you have ideas on why you want that character to be black or female. Its a book so why does the mention of the skin color matter to begin with? But with the female if she can without any training or practise suddenly beat up a group of guys people will call it woke, girls can't do that since they have weaker bodies by default. And even a trained girl will not be a match for a bulky guy. So she will have to adopt a different stratrgy if she were to be in a situation with two strong men or her ability to beat them up has to come from somewhere.
Its stuff like that we are about, believable characters with a fitting backstory and fitting strengths and limitations. You also wouldn't write a guy who can seduce other male characters based on his sex appeal on a consistent basis unless its more of a comedy book and he is a joke charactrr.
Asker+1 y"Its a book so why does the mention of the skin color matter to begin with"
I'm writing a comic book, I need to draw the characters and as my characters are black, so I'll need to draw them black.
And it's obvious that my female characters are very capable of beating men with their own abilities. They have the power to do so. In terms of writing a white man and then changing to a black woman, that's not a problem either, because I don't even have white characters.
Asker+1 yHe's probably very into politics, which I don't want to be, but thanks for the recommendation.
- +1 y
On his commentary channel he is very in to politics, but his comics are void of explicit politics since conservatives hate that. He did want to depict a successful black man for once since black people are often represented poorly and that's a positive thing. Its just a no nonsense comic book for people in to comic books about a former super hero who had something happen that made him quit.

Asker+1 y@KrakenAttackin Do you have any cognitive problems? Do the following, explain why I'm woke?
- +1 y
I think the author of the question was referring to a work with only black characters. From what I saw of this guy Rippa, there are several prominent white characters. It's kind of obvious that right-wing white people won't complain if white characters are given prominence and leadership. What if ALL the characters are black?
- +1 y
@Lamagatuda The author of the question asked how many, not if all were black. If all characters were black, Right leaning people could still be fine with it. Here in Norway, we had a childrens story, named Vesle Hoa (translated to English it means Little Hoa) every character in that story was black, that story got banned because SJWs decided that in the modern world its problematic. It wasnot attacked by right-wingers.
- +1 y
@Sasahara And what is this story about? The last time I heard something similar was a story where people dressed up as black people as if they were monsters. Why did they ban the story?
Would right-wingers be okay with this? There are literally several right-wingers complaining about films starring black characters (and they are original films). If there's one thing I know will happen when a film where the protagonist is a black man is that right-wing white people will complain and call it woke. - +1 y
@Lamagatuda Right wingers just hate forced inclusivity. They aren't racist people but they are upset about all the racist people making everything about race and forcefully sanitizing everything we consume to include all races. You can have a black protagonist all you want but make it make sense.
But a diverse cast is basically just a red flag, doesn't mean its woke or that the thing is bad. But it does mean its more likely to have lazy writing or political pandering in it. And then its those things that end up standing out and being disliked. - +1 y
@Lamagatuda The story is about a little boy named Hoa, who one night discovers an enemy tribe is about to attack his village. He warns the chief, the adults scares away the badguys, and thry hold a celebration in honor of Hoa. It got banned because it includes a word starting with N, and I think the leftists also have also started to think that hottentot is a bad word. And the good guys in this story are hottentots.
@sawno I absolutely agree with you
Asker+1 yWhat exactly is a diverse cast? Non-white characters existing? To me it's just a cast of people acting. I think it's funny, if it's a cast of white characters = normal. If it's a cast of non-white characters = diverse. For right-wingers there are normal people: white people. And diverse people: non-whites. hahaha a little funny.
- +1 y
I also find it strange that the all-white cast =normal. All black cast = diverse. For me, they are people acting.

Many. Its the hypocritical SJWs you should worry about.

Song of the south is a excellent movie, with black characters, hated by losers.

Asker+1 yGenerally, those who attack me or other independent black artists for having many black characters are right-wingers. Leftists don't even consume it.
Asker+1 yIn fact, don't you know of any other film besides this one? You don't know of any other film with black characters. This film doesn't just have black characters.
- +1 y
I never said it just has black characters, I said it has black characters. And of course I know of other movies, I use this as an example because leftists are the ones hating on it. You know, the "them" mentioned in the title of the question. And your question asked how many black or female characters you could have without the people who attacks Song of the south attacking your movie. Since they are the them you are refering to in your question
And the leftists who acts like blacks in movies are a new thing can go screw themself.
Here is a collection of old movies, staring black actors:

Asker+1 yWhat current films with an all-black cast do you not see a problem with?
- +1 y
I never said I had any problems with all black cast in movies, you asked how many you can add before they attack you. I provided a answer using Song of the south as an example of a movie with black actors that have been attacked. Ok? Then you get pouty and act like I donโt know any other movies with black actors, so I did you the favor of linking an excellent collection with a lot of movies, made by black people. And that somehow means I have a problem with contemporary movies? I never voiced my opinion about contemporary movies.
As long as Song of the south is a valid example of movie with black actors that gets attacked, Iโm going to keep using that example because I thinks its a good movie.
Asker+1 yI just want to know which current films with all-black casts you like, that's all.
- +1 y
I canโt think of any. And in case you think otherwise, I canโt think of any recent movies with only white actors either. But I fully understand that you find my taste in movies more interesting than the opinions of people who claim right wing people are the ones who attacks movies when Song of the south is hated by leftists.
Anonymous(25-29)+1 yRight-wing white people call anything where they are not the center of attention woke. So if you're going to create a story and your characters are black, be sure that White right-wingers will complain. Just make it and worry about the quality.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yThey will complain anyway, so do what you want. If you want some advice: if you create white characters, don't make white characters villains, don't make them heroes either, use them as support. or white people who will cry all day. If the protagonist is a woman, don't make her extremely powerful from the beginning, or they'll say it's unrealistic, but if the protagonist is a man, you can give him an over power that won't complain, it's called a double standard, get used to it.

+1 yno need to specify skin color of characters. such divisive specifications is what draws complaints. one book james bond had "dark skin' but other books and characters in james bond, that is not worth mentioning.
in hunger game did author say katnis skin color?

Asker+1 yIdiotic, idle talk. First, the race of white characters is mentioned in several books. If you don't know this, then maybe you should read more. In other words, if it is common for white authors to mention that their characters are white, then why do you find it strange that a black author does the same. I hate this stupid argument. Generally, those who say this also say they don't see color, but just seeing a black color is enough to make them complain.
I'm writing a comic book, I need to draw the characters and since my characters are black, I'll need to draw them in black. So it is obvious that the color of the characters will be specified.
Asker+1 y"in hunger game did author say katnis skin color?"
It makes a difference? If the author said she was white, readers would simply accept it as a physical characteristic of a character, but they would probably call it woke if a black author did the same. It seems to be more of a double standard than an attempt to "divide". If someone feels threatened because the author specified that a character is black, that person is the problem and not the author or the character.- +1 y
Sometimes it is necessary to specify the color of the characters. In fact, the way things are, if the author doesn't specify that the characters are black and one day decides to make a film about the book, right-wing white people will probably call the film woke. Since for many white people, if the author does not specify the color of their characters, then the character can only be white.
12.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Insofar as you do not apply bigoted-appearing characteristics to them, nobody should care. But then, why is their race important to the story?

Asker+1 yMaybe because as an artist I can create a story with any characters I want?
Asker+1 yMaybe because black people are human beings and they exist and that's why it's normal for there to be stories just about them?
Asker+1 yBecause I want. Because the story is mine. Because white people and Asians do it, so why not black people? I have never seen an Asian artist have to explain the characters in the universe he created (a universe that is not linked to an Asian country). Neither do white people. It's funny to think that Asians and whites can create a whole new fictional universe and its characters can be white or Asian by pure coincidence or by pure will of the author, but if a black artist creates a universe from scratch and its characters are black, then the artist needs to explain why water is wet.
Asker+1 yI thought creating your own story, your own universe and your own characters was enough, but it seems like we have to answer a thousand answers that artists of other races don't need.

You will always be attacked, just focus on the story you want to tell.00 Reply It depends where your story is set. If it's in central Africa you can have as many black female characters as you like. If it's set in Medieval Germany maybe cut back a little.

Asker+1 yWhy does it need to be in Africa? What if it's in a mystical universe where all the characters are black?
Asker+1 yAnd what does this have to do with a fictional story? There are several fictional stories where all the characters are white or Asian, I have never seen the author have to explain why people have white skin in their universe, I have also never seen Asian authors have to explain why they have slanted eyes or light skin, so why Should a black author give biological explanations to create black characters?
Asker+1 yWhat is a story without any relation to reality? A story where all the characters are black? No white or Asian artist explains why their characters are what they are, the characters simply are. It seems like there is a double standard, white and Asian artists can create whatever they want without explaining why they are Asian or white while black artists must even explain why the water is wet. According to your logic, a story with black characters can only exist if it is about Africans? What do you think if they are white characters? If they are white, does the author need to be linked to white culture or is he free to use his creativity to create his own universe?
- +1 y
If you're not writing about your own society or another one you're familiar with, why are you writing at all? Even Tolkien's Middle Earth, nominally a fantasy world, was actually just a representation of Medieval Europe with some mythical and fantasy elements from that culture. If you're not doing something along those lines your characters may as well be green or purple for that matter.
Asker+1 y"If you're not writing about your own society or another one you're familiar with, why are you writing at all?"
Because an artist can write whatever they want, including something not linked to a culture or people, but rather their own creativity and imagination.
If they can be green or purple, why can't they be black? Doesn't everything depend on the author's will?
