You look into a phone book, or read a sports roster or a business's list of staff in the US, and all you see are surnames like Hill, Watkins, Smith, Johnson, Miller, Barnes, Adams, Foster, etc.

Not even a Scottish or German surname?

White Canadians on the other hand are Ukrainian, Russian, Jewish, Dutch, Polish, Italian, French, Greek, Scandinavian, Scottish, Irish and German.

I don't know what lists/books,/rosters you are reading, but you need to get out more.

Immigrants tended to move to areas of the US that had climates similar to where they came from, so different regions will more of certain nationalities - Scandinavian are heavily represented in Wisconsin and Minnesota, Poles and Russians in Ohio, French in Louisiana, Germans throughout the Midwest, and UK, Irish, and Italians in the New England states.

It also matters when a given group came to the US and what work opportunities and land availability was at the time. Lots of Chinese were brought over to work on the building of the railroads, and after, they tended to land in big cities along the railroad routes - which is why many cities have a "Chinatown".

In the Bay Area, we have lots of Indians (from India), Chinese, Vietnamese, and others, many of whom work in the tech industry. And plenty of Filipinos, many who work in health care.

California was part of Mexico until 1850, and Mexico was a Spanish colony, and there were plenty of Spanish in California before the US got it.

Speaking of Scots, maybe you've heard of McDonald's? That was originally started in the Los Angeles area by a pair of brothers of Scottish ancestry. And there are Irish bars in every major city.

Yes, there were lots of English in the earliest days, and that grew over time, but there have been plenty of others too.

Many Europeans who emigrated to America in the 18th, 19th, and 20th entury Anglicized their names so as to "fit in" with the predominately Englich ancestry crowd.

I have ancestors from Germany named Bauermeister. After a generation, it was Bowermaster. After another generation or two, it was Bowers. I have ancestors from France who were named Rober. That became Roberts.

Not true Trump has German ancestors he´s not English. John McCain According to his Wikipedia John McCain had Scottish ancestors so I´m not sure what you´re referring to. Take for example Spielberg, it´s a German name. Rudy Giulani doesn´t sound English either.
Not to mention Hugh Hefner, Hefner also sounds more German than English to me.
Yes many people have an English name because many immigrants to the land of the US were English, but they are not all there are.

Pretty unlikely with all the European immigration. WASPS rarely believed in ancestral purity, although some like the Bushes, Saltonstalls, Lodges, Cabots and some others have tried to keep their wealth isolated. Mine goes back in several threads but they are all diluted.
