Pediatricians look at a child and proclaim he's got a cold, plastic surgeons cut into people. Say what you will about the vapid nature of the later, but at least it takes some skill and knowledge beyond writing down 'buy caught syrup' in illegible script.

Well, primary care has been regulated to death, so doctors there don't earn that much. Plastic surgery on the other hand is elective, so it has NOT been regulated to death and the docs there can make a lot more money, so they do.
