GROUP A of the competition to elect the best country in the world.

As far as the most individual liberties its the US.
As far as having the best public transit and the most affordable healthcare its not the US.
As far as the most human rights violations, draconian laws, brutal repression of anythimg resembling free speech, free press, free religion, and most instances of more of their own citizens killed by other nationals than by invading enemies, its Russia or China.05 Reply- 1 y
Abortions are up to the individual states. Some allow and some don't but thats never stopped anyone from doing it anyway.
Nobody waits till 18 to have sex, that's a nonsense notion. Every nation has similar alcohol laws, its hardly a civil liberties violation. And believe me, gambling happens everywhere. Almost every bar has gambling machines and there's casinos everywhere.
Additionally, we can criticize, insult, critique, dissagree, and demand repeal/abolishment of any government policy. And we can redress our government however we so desire and the government cannot do a single thing in retaliation.
Any other place they can arrest you for it.
In China or Russia if you criticise the government they execute you.
In Europe you can get arrested for "mean tweets". And for expressing disapproval of refugee asylum. Europe has the illusion of civil liberty but there's literally nothing stopping the governments from suspending them at will should they so desire.
The middle east and africa have absolutely no civil liberty to speak of. None.

@AngryCarl The legal age of consent varies by state. In some it is 16. And not many teens pay attention to that. Abortion is legal in states where 70% of the population lives. Gambling is now legal in most states - there are a multitude of legal casinos now here in California. The age for alcohol used to be 18 in some states, but the feds used the threat of withholding highway funds to force every state to change it to 21. But that doesn't stop teens from drinking even if they can't buy it legally.

Such a list, especially as a short list, is rather silly, as there are way too many individual factors for each person. Also, most people (certainly 99% of Americans) have never lived in another country, so how could they really estimate the living in foreign countries? By watching TV?
04 Reply- 1 y
There are millions of people from other - especially South-American - countries in the United States, but are they real American citizens holding citizenship? Practically no illegal immigrant has a path to US-citizenship.
- 1 y
So? There are millions of LEGAL immigrants who have come here over the last 50+ years from other parts of the world and are now citizens. The US still takes in more LEGAL immigrants than any other country. The illegals get all the publicity.
And why, pray tell, should people who violate the law to come here even HAVE a path to citizenship?
- 1 y
u. s. must be best. we hear about milions of legal applications to u. s. and millions of law breakers trying to get in and succeeding.
but other countries don't have "boatloads" pouring in along french southern coast?

from these choices given, the best is the usa. that's not even my subjective opinion. that's objectively measurable. https://www.oecdbetterlifeindex.org/de/#/55555555555 tho norway would be best.
00 Reply 3.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I've been to all of those except Russia, for anywhere from 10 days (Italy) to 6 months (Germany), excluding the US where I live. I think I could live in any of the ones I have been to, though I would have to watch myself in China.
But I'll stick with the US, as there are a lot of choices where to live.

why would you have to watch yourself in China?

@lightbulb27 Wouldn't want to be seen as critical of the gov't.
Germany, if you were born there. They don't like the English for some reason.
Fun fact: In Germany, healthcare is partially free due to the social contributions to the public healthcare system. This means that individuals can receive medical services free of charge for the most part. However, some low copayments apply, such as the β¬10 charge for a visit to the general practitioner (GP) every quarter.
