As someone very strongly opinionated about this I am actually in the middle.
In part its better, vaccines don't exclusively target a specific disease for a few reasons. First of all a boosted immune system is better against any disease which is why the corona vaccines appeared to work. The immune system gets boosted by the foreign substance but didn't produce lasting protection because that part of the vaccines didn't work. There is a reason we aren't always physically on high alert, so constantly boosting for that is damaging. But the more important reason is things like a flu shot that can target multiple viruses. So not pinning it down to "Specific disease" I agree with as i'd rather see "specific disease (s)".

But the part I completely disagree with is the vagueness of this to where any substance that tempoarily boosts your immune system against a virus could count as a vaccine. They had to of course, otherwise the coronavirus concoctions wouldn't have been classified as vaccines, none of these have been proven to work while simultaneously natural immunity has been proven to work.

By their new definition, all you'd need to do is inject an inflammatory substance that triggers an immune response and puts the body on high alert. You can call that a universal virus vaccine under these new definitions because it will help against the virus for a few weeks.

Both definitions are practically the same. The second is just a bit more concise, which is where all writers strive. Both uses the verb “stimulate” immune resistance. So this is one of the most idiotic conspiracy theories this year.

@OddBeMe by the second definition I could literally inject somebody within inflammatory to stimulate your immune resistance. The first and older definition requires protection against something specific.

Man, first the far left can't define a woman and now they can't define a vaccine!

@OddBeMe The difference is stimulating it which any inflammatory substance can do, and providing actual immunity. Vaccines were always understood to train the body to be able to produce antibodies on its own, the new definition doesn't cover that anymore.

I understood vaccine to mean that when I learned about them in the 1980s. Whoever thought they were 100% effective must have lacked basic education. That has never been implied.

@OddBeMe Science updates all the time. This is not that. A vaccine has meant that since the word was created. It has literally never meant cure. That CDC is patronizing the segment of the population that didn't know this and is "updating" their definition is not an update of science or anything else of science, it's merely proving how uneducated Americans are.

It's about time something was done. I knew this Van driver drove for Access Medicaid trips for Seniors and Disabled. He took the COVID vaccine and no sooner later he got sick with COVID. He ended up on life support, then got better then, got sick again and went into the hospital and signed an agreement not to be resuscitated and no life support within so many hours he passed away. Furthermore, he only took the COVID vaccine because his job required for him to get it. My cousins and aunt took the COVID vaccine and got sick with COVID I'm not saying vaccines cause a person to get sick, but it just makes you wonder. I know another guy took the COVID vaccine went to bed that night and dreamed he was in World War II, so these things make you wonder.

If they changed the definition it was because during COVID they realized that too many people had no idea what a vaccine was. A vaccine has NEVER been 100% effective at preventing any disease. There has never been such a vaccine.

Smallpox is the only human virus that has been completely eradicated. But even the smallpox vaccine is not 100% effective. It doesn't need to be 100% effective to reduce the symptoms and stop the spread of the disease.

Some people think like, "A seat belt does not protect me against all car crashes, therefore I won't wear one." A seat belt DOES protect people from car crashes, and vaccines DO protect people from the disease. But in neither case is it completely effective.

The new definition is just as misleading as the old one, but in a different way. It says that I only need one vaccine... because a vaccine "stimulates my immune system against diseases" as a whole, not specific diseases or classes of disease.

A specific vaccine targets a specific disease or class of diseases, and that should be clear in the definition.

their explanation is for the change in the end part but...

the first change is to stretch 90% ones to include no effect! just "used to stimulate" gets called vaccine. for someone who lost credibility this just makes it worse.

      Reply
    • Soteris

... Do they now... Then why are almost everyone wrong then? Especially you I might add. You CAN make vaccines against rapidly mutating viruses, especially with the new MRNA vaccine. Just because something is rapidly mutating does not mean every part of it is as likely to change for example. Covid19 is and remains to be a Corona virus which defines a lot of what it is and what it does.

Also vaccines are not medicine, as in it does not treat the illness. It does not need to be specifically designed to a particular disease. The body itself has some flexibility to adapt to similar diseases if they are close enough. Even if the virus is no longer in the form you took the vaccine to combat your body can bridge that gap within reason.

Lastly, another thing that you people struggle with is that even if a vaccine was just 30% effective, that 30% could be the difference between a pandemic and eradicating the disease. Fighting a disease is a battle of "attrition". That 30%, or however small it is contributes to slowing down the disease and if the spread slower than its rate of infection then the disease will die out as surely as if the vaccine was 100% effective.

But again, these are all the more complicated realities behind vaccination that people who does not need a dictionary to tell them what the word means understand.. where as people like you.. well.. we can't use too many or complicated words or you might get confused.

Yeah shove your condescending attitude up your ass. Everybody knows how vaccines are supposed to work and everybody knows that this was a big cash grab.

Big pharma wanted to keep the ingredients secret for over 70 years, they wanted immunity to liability for even longer from what I remember.. and they are making record-breaking profits so they have every fucking incentive to push this bullshit.

The fuck are you talking about? Pretty much nothing about vaccines are a secret, in fact the process is generally quite simple in practice but hard to do in reality which is why it has been such a struggle to keep making new vaccines.

Again, vaccines are not medicine in the traditional sense. It is simply something either derived from the disease itself or something that approximates the disease close enough to be useful. There is no "magic" to it beyond that.

Like honestly, this is exactly what I am talking about. You have NOOOO idea whats going on do you?

What vaccine recipe? There is no vaccine recipe! Its a mRNA vaccine. All mRNA vaccines are the same! That is the whole point of the mRNA vaccine!

It is a universal "delivery system" that simply inputs a small genetic code into your body that tells your body to produce a small amount of proteins that is similar to a protein that the virus uses.

The mRNA vaccine was developed using government money to cure cancer. We know what it fucking is. The thing that makes the covid19 vaccine into the covid19 vaccine is just that small line of genetic code to produce a particular protein. We also know what that is. There is no mystery here.

The only secrets they really hold is how to scale up production AKA their manufacturing process as opposed to just making it small scale in a lab environment.

Why are they so secretive about it? Because lawyers. Lawyers will always try to be as annoying as they can even if there is little to no point in it. Also the slowdown is based on producing 500 documents a month which becomes a problem when you have hundreds of thousands of documents.

But yeah, do you want to know what is in the mRNA vaccine? Just run it through a RNA sequencer and you get it literally in plain text. There are no secrets in the vaccine itself.

This is typical right wing nonsense. First you find something to have a moral panic about, then you hammer on about it for months until people start using your terminology or, as in this case, accepting a niggle and clarifying, then you point at that and claim you were right about everything (rather than the 1%) all along.

No vaccine has ever been 100% effective. The early, easy, vaccines for smallpox, measles, polio, etc. were close, because the viruses weren't prone to mutating. Flu vaccines, where you didn't make a big fuss about a definition on one website, have been around for well over a decade now, and are new every year. The Trump vaccines are no different, apart from nutters insisting that vaccines suddenly have to be 100% effective.

I love that it's taken you until now to "find" this evidence for something that you've apparently been claiming without proof for ages.

No. It literally doesn't matter what description the CDC puts on their website. The vaccines are vaccines and they work to protect people.

      Pretending otherwise is stupid.

Pretending that this was not profit driven and part of a propaganda campaign is stupid.

mRNA sucks. And to top it all off they want you to take a booster every other month or some shit? What other virus that has a less than 1% chance to kill you requires all of this?

Not to mention the 6-ft rule was completely arbitrary. Masks didn't work.. lol.

Sigh, arbitrary doesn't mean wrong. Six feet is better than six inches, and worse than six yards. And yes, masks work.

I asked you elsewhere: is there any nonsense you aren't willing to believe?

Gun safety training is completely arbitrary nonsense as well, should we ignore that too? I mean it can't be working that great if people still shoot themselves accidentally right? I mean honestly, whats the problem of aiming at my own head if I do not pull the trigger right? I should be able to wave it around however I please should I not? Its my gun after all, I have my rights. Its not like I would ever have a misfire or something, that only happens to other people or on TV.

@Dongie haha they're so delusional. They try to violate your rights in the most orwellian ways possible and then act surprised when you point it out.

Every 5 months. That's 100 shots if you round to two per year for 50 years of supposed immunity against COVID-19.

You know how many shots I had to take for other viruses?

For each virus, no more than 2 times in my entire lifetime. And these are viruses that have a way higher chance than less than 1% chance to kill me.

The flu vaccine you generally take once a year, the triple TDAP vaccine you take once every 10 years etc.. There are plenty of vaccines you can, and perhaps should take regularly. Also the covid19 vaccine does not have a 1% chance to kill you, dont be ridiculous.
