I work at a restaurant and just served a couple from the United Kingdom. Do they not tip in their country?

In general USA dominates the tipping culture but that’s also due to various laws and gaps are decided on state level. Most hotel and high-end restaurants across the globe add service charges on top of the meal prices but this is clearly written on the menus prior to ordering typically its between 10-21%. In European countries most don’t expect tips, however, it has become more and more common for the waiter to hand over the credit card terminal to you and allow you to insert the figures, hoping that you tip them. Then again, meal prices are just ridiculously expensive in European countries in comparison to the US or the rest of the world.

Usually people tip 10-15%, sometimes its already added as a service tax. But tipping in Europe in general is more of a nice gesture than paying their servers the actuall wage.

In some countries its consider rude and as an insult if you tip.

So better do a quick google search when traveling somewhere new.

Yeah because we only get paid like $2 an hour and never see our paychecks, but these guests.. left nothing, and I notice that European’s leave hardly anything if anything at all.

They don’t pay my bills. Just wandering if they’re aware on how the tipping system works in the USA or if they just don’t give a f*** bc I’ll never see them again

No, they don't. I'm there now and the service charge is included in the bill, usually 10 or 15%.

No we don't, that's why restaurants are forced to pay waiters more instead of looting from customers

Yeah, no, we don't normally tip in restaurants. Maybe if the service was outstanding or if it's more of a posh restaurant.

Yeah tipping here is rare
5-10% is very graciously accepted
