They should be piss off with their former imperialist Japan that proceeded with one of the worst military strategies ever. They were delusional idiots thinking that delivering a sneaky attack to a country's carriers would scare the US enough to sue for peace. On top of that they were God fanatics thinking that they're so untouchable, that they can't be conquered nor defeated even when they were already losing and they didn't care one bit about more of their people were starving and dying.

It failed so miserably in every way. First the carriers weren't at seas. All they did was attacked the battle ships and killed people, pissing off US obviously. Secondly, even if they've successfully destroyed all our carriers, the only difference is the ending of the war would've delayed by 2 years but with the same result: a total, devastating defeat for them and the US would've been even more enraged. Lastly, why didn't they surrender immediately when the US demanded unconditional surrender? The already lost their rights of asking for a negotiation when they started a losing war. Potsdam Declaration (demanding unconditional surrender) on July 26, 1945 was before even the first bombing so they were warned.

The only two ways they wouldn't have gotten nuked twice is either leaving the US alone (don't sneak attack us) or if they wanted war with us simply have the honor of declaring war, a direct confrontation; our people would've likely been less upset than faking peace talks.

Exactly. They completed themselves so much, entered a war of attribution with someone they weren't going to ever defeat even if they had destroyed all carriers, suffered 2 atomic bombs... all that drama they did... only to get help from US in the end (we helped them restore their nation and economy after all) and become our ally; what they would've easily achieved if they had asked for help instead of attacking.
