Did the Democrats agree to this early debate to give them time to replace Joe Biden?

Immediately after the Biden-Trump debate, where Biden admittedly made a poor showing, Republicans started asking Biden to withdraw from the Presidential race. Now, a Democrat, Representative Lloyd Doggett of Texas (LBJ's old district) is calling for Biden to withdraw.

This debate was one of the earliest in Presidential campaign history. A new theory is that the Democrats pushed for an early debate to assess if Biden is fit to run, and to give them time to replace him if the debate went bad, which it did

President Biden admitted he didn’t listen to staff about traveling too much could fatigue him for the debate and that he should lay off of D Day celebrations / meeting veterans across the sea, Biden didn’t listen and showed respect to those troops. He took full responsibility for it and I praise him for it.

The day after the debate he said, “I don’t walk as smoothly as I used to, don’t debate as smoothly as I used to, I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to but I’ll tell you what I do know. I know to tell the truth”.

President Biden CAN turn this around, we should wait on him to prove just that.

It's not just the date of the debate, but the ground rules also didn't favor Biden. He wasn't allowed to have notes, there was no audience, and it was a late night event. I think it was planned to give Biden the opportunity to reveal his senility so that he could be replaced on the ticket.

Now, I expect a 25th Amendment ploy, Harris to be installed as President, with her secret agreement that she will not contend for the nomination (because she, too, could not win against Trump.)

Thanks for MHO! It appears there is a strong push to make Harris the candidate; i suspect everyone realizes the election is unwinnable and nobody else wants to be the candidate. Does anyone remember Michael Dukakis?

Old people are stubborn and will insist on plodding on despite no longer being up to the job. For example when animal welfare officers are called to deal with starving animals 99% of the time they find some 80 year old who insists he's still up to the job despite his frailty and no longer playing with a full deck of cards. This is exactly what we're seeing with Biden, the more you tell him he's past it the harder he's clinging on to prove you wrong.

Biden needs to be forced to retire no playing silly games with debates to drop hints.
