I feel like societal improvement requires discipline at all levels and cannot be achieved by purely address crises situations where drug use happens. The reason I and my friends have never done drugs, is that we were raised all our lives to choose self control and moderation, and to reject evil pleasures like sex or gluttony or lying. When you discipline your 4 year old children, they do not become 40 year old serial killers.

Neither. Legilization, regulation, taxation and harm reduction. You can't stop demand. You just can't. As long as there's demand you will have suppliers.

Make the taxes increasingly punitive like for tobacco. It will take decades and only mitigate the problem, not solve it.

Make all drugs use legal. The way to stop the supply is to stop the money, Drug dealers are buisnessmen of they can't make a profit then they will go out of buisness. This is what happened to all the bootleggers after prohibition ended.

If it would have legalized the price would plummet as it hasn't every other jurisdiction that has legalized it. It's become much safer because the government is regulating it and there's no mystery. They just closed the borders & moved forward punishing those that cross illegally by never letting them in this country ever again and achieved it via Executive Order because Republicans in Congress/Senate were unwilling to pass a bill to close the border, process those seeking asylum in a fast manner, punish those that cross illegally by never letting them in ever again, Fentanyl Detectors at ALL crossings because the vast majority of drug smugglers are American citizens already living here knowing of the supply/demand firsthand.

How do we reduce demand so, these sellers go down? Education, treatment, and more.

One of the reasons the Republicans voted against the open borders' solution was that the thousands of border patrol people hired would be processing the illegals 3x as fast as they do now! He has not done one progressive thing about the border crisis he is to let more unvetted un vaccinated criminals in greater numbers than before. Actually over 86% of the Fentanyl Offenders WERE ‘Legal’ American citizens and there were still Fentanyl smuggling in New Hampshire & Massachusetts in a big portion to be in the top 4 offending states of trafficking.

To remind you of another attribute, immigration/migration dropped during the Pandemic because there was a pandemic. So comparing to 2020 levels would show a bias of sorts because the fact of the matter is the same policies of the previous administration are still in place while the wall is still being built so…. Do the policies not work? That isn’t what Republicans have said. Does the wall not work? That isn’t what Republicans have said. Therefore there can’t be an issue since the GREAT policies & GREAT wall are still in effect. Works so well this administration closed the border. That’s it.

That's quite literally what has turned all the big West Coast cities into zombie apocalypses. Essentially, all of these people are being allowed to use drugs until they die on the streets, which they are doing in large numbers, but in the meantime, they are also causing tremendous amounts of crime, property damage, and are running off anyone with money so that these cities have lost their tax bases and have no hope of being able to recover or even pay for the policing they need, much less treatment and other programs.

The same problem has occurred everywhere this has been tried.

I agree that a big part of the issue has to start with reducing demand (significantly), but it's pretty clear that the US government is deeply involved on both sides of the drug war - meaning they're often just as involved with selling drugs as they are stopping them. It's how a lot of illegal activity that isn't funded by congress actually gets funded. That's a huge problem.

The other thing is that people caught with drugs need to be sentenced to do WORK - *real* work such as graffiti removal, garbage removal, and other neighborhood clean-up work. Punishments shouldn't be money (which they often don't have), and it shouldn't be sitting in a cell learning how to do crime better, it should be out working to fix the things they and their criminal associates have been doing to damage society. Plus, it reduces the chances of them being free to use drugs while being "punished."

We have largely eliminated smoking just through strong social pressure - much the same could be done with drugs.
