3-5 years in prison for drug dealing or drug trafficking is ridiculous… this will always be seen as an easy way to make money because the risk isn’t too high as we constantly let drug dealers go before they even finish their sentencing. don’t punish the drug addicts or people abusing these drugs but punish the hell out of the people that exploit these people like drug dealers and drug traffickers.

Honestly, I say just decriminalize it. Let drug dealers try to outdo each other and addicts will be forced to either OD or get clean. Oversaturated market lowers demand.
If you have ever watched a person die from drug addiction you might say life of hard labor. Watch a vibrant young happy girl brcome a prostitute thief liar and go from 135lbs to 79lbs and racked with VD and slowly watch life drain from her till her last gasps of life.
Iran has had the DEATH PENALTY for drug related crimes since the 50's and they admit it has done literally nothing to decrease drug trafficking. There are 29 other countries across the world that equally have the death penalty for drug related crimes where public beheadings and firing squads are implemented and guess what, they STILL have drug problems.
Reagan went guns blazing into America with that crazy war on drugs thinking rounding up thousands would surely get rid of the problem, but criminals only adapt because the money is just too good. You have to understand that you cannot really "punish" someone who is already at the bottom rung of life which a lot of drug dealers and users are. They are often from poor communities, with lack of job opportunities (or ones that would pay comparable to selling drugs), and they are often corrupted at young ages. The only thing you will accomplish is the same for what happened in the 80s---tons of people in already over flowing jail systems to the point where once again, all we do is round them up and let them go because guess who is paying for these jail stints---you the taxpayer. There has never been a simple black and white answer to the drug problems in the world because so many factors are involved that people fail to see when they seek so called simple solutions that never work.

Look up the stats on the decriminalization of drugs before and after of Portugal.
I'm only assuming here, that you're from the US, but this country is so focused on GUNS and JAIL being the answer to everything, I can't see that working out here. Adds to that, there is a dark side of drugs in which people, specially jail systems, get kick backs for the amount of people they bring in even on low level charges....again....people fail to take all of this into account....when you have people more concerned about money than human life, getting people into drug treatment facilities or going into "bad neighborhoods" and getting to root causes is bottom of the barrel priority if the guy at the top (often politicians, follow the money) aren't making inroads because they're lining their pockets.
Your goal is harsher sentencing for the traffickers...but how does this actually help all those users left in their wake because one goes down, 5 more pop up? So is the nature of that ugly game. Nations have taken down heads of cartels and within months, they were back up and running. It's always about money and there are some very bad people who are connected to those in "good power."
I'm not saying throw our hands up and give up on finding a solution but if we aren't also taking down those behind the drug dealers keeping them in power, you can't win in the same way not offering things like affordable and accessible drug treatment, jobs, counseling, even childcare for single parents in these situations, won't help either.
We'll never get rid of the drug problem completely. Some people are messed up and just do what they do, despite the facts being out there. Same thing with alcoholics and smokers. If you want to really hurt the drug dealers and cartels, then decriminalize the drugs. That would take a HUGE bite out of their profits, and probably lower the crime rate as the druggies could get their stuff easier and cheaper.
Accountabilities gone these days. What consequence you thinks gonna stop druggies? Every druggie deserves to die right now. All of them from the 12 yr old boy to the 70 yr old woman.

'Murrica tries so hard to be "the land of the free", while incarcerating 2,5 million people in jails/prisons. You think incarcerating a million more will make the beacon shine even brighter? /sarcasm
The best and perhaps only way to solve the drug problems is to abolish all drug laws. Without the drug laws, drugs would be inexpensive and drug crime would go to near zero. Even drug usage would fall, because there would be no drug pushers enticing children to use drugs. Some people would still use drugs because, when they are in pain, they will do anything to eliminate the pain. Other people would experiment but at no greater rate than currently do.
They are trying it now and what is happening that the states that have open selling of pot the damn government is taxing it so bad that people are going back to dealers for cheaper prices. This is what happen to everythig it touches
I work in the prison system. 99% of everyone there, are there because of drugs. It's not about the possession or use of drugs, it's about what they did to get the money to buy the drugs. I know a very nice guy who wanted to commit suicide. He told me he didn't have the courage to do it himself, so he opted for death by cop.
He found a cop, struggled with the cop, and took the cop's gun. He had the cop on the ground and was ready to put a bullet in his head... Another cop kicked him in the elbow and broke his arm. It was a long shot, but he saved his pal's life. The criminal told me that he felt bad because the drugs fucked up his brain, and made him do that.
Do you have any idea of what "SPICE" is? You can buy it at gas stations. It turns you into a zombie.
Do you know what Fentanyl is? The Chinese are pushing it across our open border. It's 100 times more powerful than heroin. Do you know what "ISO" is? It's about 20-30 times more powerful as Fentanyl.
You can't blame the dealers really. They wouldn't do it if Americans weren't such addicts. And it really isn't low income, poor, urban area people that use. It's generally middle/upper class, suburban, white people that are the cocaine, heroin, and pill addicts. I've seen it. I've done narcotics before in my youth, but never the crazy stuff and I always had to go to the hood to get my shit.
Problem is, low level dealers don't think they'll ever get caught so they do not even think of the penalty or even know what it is until they get busted and then are like, say what in court.
I'm not necessarily opposed to it, but I see it as a two part solution. Get the dealers and the users, rather than focus on one side.

wow you have a lot of photos of seized drugs but no i dont agree. Its absurd to make something a crime that only harms the person doing it. you might aswell criminalise masturbation. But you're so far gone i won't waste my breath.
i typed drugs into the search box which led me here. why you ask? i want to know why people snort drugs? its far more civilised to stir it into your coffee. and enjoy it leisurely like a gentleman instead furtively snorting it like fn a peasant
Harsher sentences does little to reduce crime. This is a fact. It has no deterrent effect and it doesn't reduce rates of re-offending after release. Most of us have this false notion that if we increase punishment it decreases crime and that is a completely unfounded myth. The only thing it does is keeps them away from the rest of the population.

No you punish the seller and the addicts. You force the addict to get clean or prison 3-5 years.
Stop giving people options and banging them. People know drugs are bad since the 70s.
If we gotta get rid of some junkies and there crappy DNA then so be it

We've been doing that for the past 40 years of fighting this stupid drug war and it hasn't worked. So what makes you think it's going to work now?
In Indonesia you get either life in prison or the death penalty for drug trafficking, and yet people still do it.
The answer is to decriminalize drugs and treat addiction as a medical problem, not a criminal problem.
There is a shocking documentary by Gordon Ramsey yes the famous chief on cocaine use in his restaurants. It is a must see and is done extremely well. I found it streaming on Discovery+

Just decriminalize everything, and let the addicts kill themselves by OD-ing. No more customers, no more drugs. Quit wasting taxpayer dollars on people that are essentially commiting suicide, anyway.
Once caught, arrested, charged, tried, convicted, sentenced to death. Plain and simple. Only one appeal 30 days after sentencing, then straight to the gallows.

It is a complicated issue but sentences should be much harsher. Lets face it, these people are unredeemable and they should be taken off the streets for a long time.
Maybe they should get whipping many on the back lashings Instead of high prison sentences and that way the fear of physical violence maybe will cut back on the drug trafficking
