What do you believe is the root of evil: lack of knowledge, ignorance, or perhaps another cause?

I think there's many different ways to arrive at evil. I think you need a a lack of scrutiny of yourself lack of self awareness or just deluding yourself or not caring how bad of a person you are.
One of those things needs to be there because if you're self aware and you care about being a good person you will stop yourself from doing something bad even if you're going through a lot and your emotions are boiling over.
But aside from these things there's so many different ways to justify to yourself why you're doing something bad, why other people deserve it and different motivations.
I tried to philosophy that at some point, I forgot the conclusion I came to back then but its basically corruption in general. Things are perfect but with free will to make it imperfect, so then when people corrupt that has consequences. Those people now suffer lack, hurt, etc. And that feeling that pain then makes them act out and spread that evil, someone like me has to come along and take that pain without retaliation to actually heal it back up. Which the good people are doing luckily, but since there are evil people purposefully spreading more hurt that cycle never ends.
I have to agree with the lack of empathy. Someone who lacks empathy has no morals, guilt, shame or remorse. They can literally do unimaginable evils to others without batting an eye. They have no limitations. Its scary.
It is a combination of greed, fear, ignorance and the desire to relinquish responsibility by burdening another with it.
I think that is the magic recipe.

Through studying some scripture- lack of knowledge.
My own personal opinion besides studying eternal truth is any thought, action, or interaction that takes away from another person: could be taking from their ability, dignity, sources or morale in general. That can lead to the downfall of humanity in itself in my opinion.
Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill is a great read or listen on Audiobook, def recommend if you’re a parent, or future family man/woman, leader, friend, advocate of good, or human in general. If you aren’t picking up any scripture because caught up in all of the religion stuff then definitely worth your time. We cannot question why the world is a certain way when we are given knowledge but people choose not to lead themselves to study and take personal responsibility over their lives
Imo- If we were to look at the status or health of our country what would we be seeing? In the same way why not look at the status of our neighboring countries and continent
Us as a whole are not getting it right unless we become more than allies. A good neighbor
Greed, ignorance, and genuine good intentions do a pretty stunning amount of damage.
I think there are very few genuinely, intentionally malignant people out there. It's only human nature to want to be the good guy in your own story and it's tough to feel like the good guy when you're intentionally inflicting harm on other people.
If you want to do a lot of really heinous things in the world; go up to a group of ignorant people, get them to trust you, and then convince them that you have the solution to make other people's lives better.
One you shouldn't accept "evil" as a excuse. Not to forgive anyone but to protect ourselves and hold ourselves accountable in protecting and pursuing justice.
Like the saying "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." So at somepoint decant people fell off tye wagon.
The reality is people live in a risk vs reward economy and participate in economic exchanges. So it's all basic social economics how much can you risk it for the biscuit.
I think it varies, personally it’s not lack of knowledge or ignorance, some serial killers have been very intelligent, professional people.
if you look at the planning that went into concentration camps and the murder of millions, it was well planned and meticulously carried out.
for me
money, sex and power definitely feature in the roots, then there is free will, our reasoning, the human ability to view things using out morality.
The closest thing there is to "evil" is believing in "evil" in the first place.
It is simply avoidance of reality. The real world has real consequences of real concern to the living. Labelling things as "evil" is just a weak excuse not to think them through rationally. Simply put, morality is for the mentally lazy and inept.
These are all good reasons but I think the customs and beliefs that have been seeded in society also play a big role in creating evil, as the things outside our customs and beliefs create outcasts and some of those make bad choices that leads to them being more excluded and this loop creates evil.
Evil is the absence of good.
Evil does not care about personal identity, education, medicine, laws or ethics. You cannot eliminate nor regulate it. You must at all times be ready to defend yourself.
I'd say blind faith allows evil people to get good people to do evil things. Selfishness and greed is what drives most of their leaders, the ones who aren't maniacs who believe they're right about everything and are doing good as they do harm.
Money, I believe money is the root of all evil
The root of all evil is greed: greed for money, power, land, sex, etc.
The societal roots are cowardice: The cowardice to stand up against evil.
The root of evil is when you value yourself higher than other people to the point where you are willing to hurt other people to benefit yourself.
in other words money and capitalism
Capitalism is not the problem. It's the corruption used by the freedom capitalism brings. It's always the mega rich that pull something to make a fast 20 mil. Look at what freedom has allowed offices of the government to turn this country into. Use our resources as tho it were their own personal positions.
@Dongie your a naive child if you think that capitalism a system that incentives profit aka money above all else is not the problem. Wake the fuck up from your brainwashing and take a good fucking look around and be fucking honest with yourself please!!
@Juxtapose Oh please cite a source for that "100 million people" you naive child.
@Dongie hey dumb ass i am waking your ass up but your dumb ass wants to stay your lazy ass asleep!!
@9in_Serpent "As the death toll mounts―as many as 25 million in the former Soviet Union, 65 million in China, 1.7 million in Cambodia, and on and on―the authors systematically show how and why, wherever the millenarian ideology of Communism was established, it quickly led to crime, terror, and repression. An extraordinary accounting, this book amply documents the unparalleled position and significance of Communism in the hierarchy of violence that is the history of the twentieth century."

Your question is redundant.
Ignorance - lack of knowledge or information.
You basically just asked if the root of evil is ignorance, ignorance, or something else...
It's because they get what they want. People that are evil long for great things in life and their only guaranteed way of achieving that is by doing evil.
when people rebel against religion or choose to misinterpret and abuse religion for their own purposes than actually following it
money its always money that is the root of all evil since the dawn of time. Get rid of money in the world and you get rid of all evil
Well, the Bible says the love of money is the root of all evil.
Not able to trust her but he open to hear her feelings about the way her to me said I'm not that important to her.
Deriving joy from the suffering of others is the truest of evils in my opinion.
