Which military style do you like the best?

French Foreign Legion. Only the toughest can enter. Very few pass their tests.

Normal like the British and most armies. Medical problems can deny you entry.

Russian approach. Everyone can enter even the disabled, criminals and rapists. They just use anyone. Criminals are used as meat waves to do the hard jobs.

The US military is 35-50 % part time between the national guard and army reserves and if you add the individual ready reserves, it's like 1 million part timers retired service people.

The national guard and reserves are a major part of the us military and are very well trained & skilled with many vetreans and are a lot more professional and effective than many military professionals around the world but the reason they are so good is because the US military has such a strong core of full time professionals.

I think the us has the right policy on part timers. It allows them to retain a lot of military trained and vetrean personel in case of war but not having to pay them as full timers in times of peace. And of course the national guard are invaluable in state security and disaster relief matters. I think the US airforce has 330,000 personal with 105,104 Air National Guard and 495,879 Airforce reserve so they've clearly more part timers than regular full timers which makes some sense because say a vetrean f16 pilot can go into semi retirement in the national guard and fly for an airliner while for a few days per year fly an f16 for the national guard and the airforce doesn't lose that experience and skill set.

Hmm, the problem with the options is that within various armies, you have parachute regiments, Marines, Pathfinders, Guards units, and some others. With the FFL, it’s really 2Rep that gets compared to anyone, invariably it’s our Paras doing it with them and them with our Paras, quite a few have crossed over. One thing FFL has that most western forces have is that IQ, education level of actually being able to think. That is critical for small unit tactics and operations. To semi quote someone, there are some guys in 2Rep who could pass UK Para Training, however all Paras could pass 2Rep training. Oh and no 1Rep they had a discussion with DeGaulle lol. Over the years a lot of Brits and Germans have served with FFL direct from leaving their respective units. Very few is likely a misnomer if you were to compare with P Company or Marines
