Politics or Politician? What would you prefer to talk about in conversation if this was the topic of your choice?

I rarely, if ever, CHOOSE to talk politics. 99% of people in my country (USA) don't know ANY facts about what is happening, who is doing it and why or what was REALLY said, etc. Most people don't know the voting records of those they elect, or what their positions are about anything except a few hot points. When statistics are pointed to on government web sites, which are the same numbers for everyone, they don't accept them if it doesn't fit their narrative so they decide it's fake and the government is lying.

A perfect example is the US Energy Administration Agency (EIA). If you wanted to see how much oil was produced in the USA, in which month and which year, you'd go there. It's not bullshit, it's not fabricated, it's real numbers. So when person A says " more oil was produced by my guy's administration than your guy's administration", you go there and say "let's see". When you prove their statement wrong, they say "the numbers are fake - I'm going to believe my GUY and not the government's numbers."

This is why I don't talk politics with people; not only are they uniformed or ill-informed, they don't research simple facts and when proven wrong, they won't accept them.

It never would be, it’s sort of an unwritten rule that religion and politics are not discussed. For the question if it was, then politics and how stupid and pathetic it is that people argue over which party gets the job of robbing them and bending them over the table.

For me an analogy is you are sitting in the bottom of a dry well and cannot get out, one party controls a water pipe that leads to the bottom of the well, the other party to one at the top of the well.

You get to vote on which party turns on the water.
No matter who you choose, you get wet, cold, have to do the hard work of swimming and staying afloat, and run the risk of drowning, while they stay dry and do nothing, if it’s successful and they get you out of the well, they take the credit, even though you did all the hardwork and took all the risks. If it fails and you drown, then it’s your fault as you did not help enough or try hard enough. They then move on to the next person stuck down a well.

Politics would be preferred over Politicians, who are al dishonest and crooked, doing whatever they can to stay in power.

At least discussing politics can provide some useful results.
