I chose the vegans. I've already had multiple discussions with representatives from both of these ideologies. About half a dozen times I've invited the JW into my house when they knocked or chatted with them on the porch, for anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes. I know plenty of vegans and other variants (my mother was a lacto-ovo pescatarian), and even tried to go vegan once that lasted almost a week.

Some people think all vegans are judgmental asshats who treat carni/omnivores like cannibals, but that hasn't been my experience. I would say less than 10% of vegans are like that. Some might even start off like that, then realize after some feedback that's not going to fly if they want to get along in society. It's the same for pro-life advocates; some treat prochoice like babykillers, others learn to get along and have their views without being dicks about it.

The vegans, of course! For two reasons:

2. Once you talk to Jehovah's Witnesses, they keep coming back to talk more. False religions are one of Satan's tools, you know.

For me, it’s not about either of us being right or wrong or arguing. I just want to know about the lives of others. We don’t always need to be right or force our beliefs on others, we can exist in hearing one another’s stories.

As soon as I finished writing that, I felt some regret. It can be painful when other peoples beliefs infringe upon or cast judgement to our own lifestyle. I fight that feeling often.

@DarkCarousel I feel you, and empathize. One thing that helps me is to remember that other people's perspectives come with a whole life of different experiences. The gangbanger vs. the CEO vs. the trailer park housewife vs. the indigenous tribesperson. The gangbanger for example is in a culture where machismo and violence are revered to establish hierarchy, the CEO from a different culture where the machismo and violence is more subtle and calculated.

When being "judged" by anyone, I just remember that they've had a totally different life, and so haven't likely come to the same conclusions and values I have.

I think you have a very healthy attitude, though. Gathering more information will only strengthen your ability to understand and encompass a broader spectrum of ideas. Open minded vs. close minded.

Jehovah's witnesses. I've never had a problem with them. They have always been polite, and when I told them I wasn't interested they didn't pursue it.

Vegans on the other hand tend to be fanatics. A lot of them treat meat eaters like murderers.

Depending on how snarky Im feeling it could go either way. I've been a vegetarian for 30 years so vegans wouldn't be too bad, but I've studied religion for many years and if Im in the mood JVH witnesses are themselves entertainmening. ("So your telling me you know the unpronounceable and secret name of God?")

Jehovah's witnesses are fun to talk to, vegans are Idiots... God created all, meat eaters are also hunters, their eyes are always facing Forward (Lions, Tiger, Men, Bears...) herbivores have eyes on the Side of their heads (Horses, deer, cows) they eat grasses and plants, they can look sideways to watch for Lions, men, and bears... 2 Jehovah witnesses because they are fun to troll. I used to switch languages in midst conversations and say something offensive but I knew they didn’t know and would still try to convert me week after week

While I might sooner support vegans than jehovas I'd rather discuss with the latter. They tend to be less militant and theology is more fun than dietary ethics to me.

Don't worry, the vegans will fill the time, lol. I have never met more preachy, self-righteous, intolerant individuals than hardcore vegans, and that includes religious folk. The only thing close is crossfit enthusiasts.

What if it wasn't a "what you should and shouldn't do" discussion, but rather a more respectful and civil discussion of their perspective, experiences, worldview, knowledge, motivations, and values? Where you were free to share your own in kind and discuss commonalities and divergences?
