If you believe feminism is about equality between men and women, what has it done in the modern day to bring about such supposedly positive change for both genders?

If you believe feminism is only about female empowerment, why do you believe that and do you consider it a positive or negative thing? Has it brought men and women closer together or farther apart?

Equality for both. How does it benefit men?
The goal of feminism is to deconstruct the patriarchy which has negative effects on both women and men. Part of this is the effect gender roles and social expectations have on men. Feminism wants to deconstruct toxic masculinity, raise boys who have healthy and safe outlets for their emotions and who can take accountability for their actions. No more boys will be boys. No more boys don't cry.

It gives men the opportunity to actually raise their children. Taking paternity leave to enjoy those first moments with their partner and baby.

Not to be expected to be the sole breadwinner (though inflation is doing a great job at that)

Be free to enjoy hobbies without feeling ashamed that they could be viewed as feminine. Overall a lot less negativity surrounding just liking or enjoying something that isn't typically masculine.

Just look at the word itself:  feminism . Look at it very closely. It contains the word “fem” which is abbreviation for “female” and “feminine”.  How could a phrase that explicitly denotes to be about females also mean “equality” between men and women?  What the phrase really means is “equal but special”. This isn’t a new concept either. Think of George Orwells classic novel Animal Farm. The society of farm animal started out as “all animals are equal” when they revolted against the abusive alcoholic human farm owner. But when the sociopathic elitist pigs took over they changed the phrase to  “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” Word definitions do impact our reality and existence. Karl Marx understood this. He knew you could manipulate an entire society by first manipulating the language the culture uses.  This doesn’t mean I have anything against female empowerment.  I am seriously all for it just as long the female has legitimate intelligence, drive and capabilities as her male counterpart does.  But what’s going in our culture right now is elitists are using “feminism” to divide and conquer our society under the guise of “gender equality”.  It’s exact driving force behind the Kamala Harris presidential campaign. She is being shielded against all legitimate criticism and questioning by the mass media much more than any male politician could ever hope for.  She is being heralded as “very special” for being the future female president. She is “equal but special”.  But the elitists behind her campaign could care less about gender equality but instead are seeking power and control.

In theory it should be about equality, though some extremists will definitely take it in the other direction, making all feminists look bad.

Like with everything else, there are more reasonable and less reasonable feminists. It's not just black and white. But unfortunately the less reasonable feminists make a lot more noise.

The general goal of feminism should be for women and men to be 100% equal. Though a lot of people take it to mean women should be above men.

It's kind of how Martin Luther King Jr wanted equal rights for both Black people and White people. He did not want for Black people to be above White people, though some people take it in that direction.

Like women who blame men for all the problems in their life, or Black people who blame White people for all the problems in their life.

Generally speaking in the Western world women and Black people have struggled a lot more than men and White people throughout history, though recently relatively speaking they have more rights than ever before.

We must never forget though that equality is the goal. Not to surpass equality.

My Response: Feminism is about empowering women in seeing themselves in a goal founded in determination, hopes, skills, dreaming, and getting stuff done. With that drive, they can achieve so much. When you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything is a neutral idea though it is utilized in feminism to empower also embolden women to do what they were born to do / never sell themselves short with love & support & warmth as the core.

Second facet is also equality. Allowing progress, inclusion and a spot for everyone to move forward. Basic human decency is what they are after since so much negativity, hatred, anger comes at them just for being different / breaking new ground…. Women deserve love, respect, support, and a place for them to feel whole.

There is toxic feminism in the same way there is toxic masculinity, though I am focusing on the positive one since the majority of women aren’t like this in the same way majority of men aren’t like this. Let’s reach out with compassion, love in our hearts, and support each other putting humans over labels.

I believe the entire gender war started with feminists and if you analyze the things that feminists believe, they are no different than any other war propaganda and people don't use the term "feminazi" for gits and shiggles.

The foundation of feminism is that men in power equals women oppressed aka the patriarchy. Even if this is true (the human race would not have lasted as long as we have if it is true), propaganda like this will only switch the "alligator" in the comparison equation but the ones who blindly support the propaganda will never believe that the change happened.

Slogans and buzzwords like "the future is female," "teach men not to rape," "male privilege" and "rape culture" are speech designed to sow division and are based off of scapegoating tactics that can be traced to the beginning of time and were similarly used by Nazis against the Jews (in support of the stereotype that they are greedy and sociopaths that harm Aryan women) and by segregationists against black people (in support of the stereotype that they are violent thugs that harm white women).

I am not advocating censorship, I just hope people will eventually recognize this propaganda for what it really is.

It's about empowering women clearly. That's the reason chilvary is dead and women killed it. Women believe that they deserve equal rights but fail to realize that in the modern free world women have more rights then men. For example a women believes they have the right to do what they want with their bodies when it comes to abortion. They believe they have the sole right to choose weather they can abort a child or not but, when it comes to child support men do not have a choice weather to pay child support or not to. This whole concept is unequal or fair. If a women has the sole choice weather to keep a child or abort them without the consent of the man who fathered the child. Then the man should have sole choice weather to pay for the child or not. Yet the men are forced to pay child support and have no say as to if the women can abort or not. Another example men have to sign up for selective service in case there is a draft for war but women do not have to. Yet they can run for president who is the commander and chief of the armed forces. How is this equal or fair at all?

The most insane thing is a 18 year old girl can make more money doing porn or on cam websites than a doctor who spent 8 years in college. Where is the sense in that and where is the motivation to increase knowledge and further education?

A man can not make that kind of money just doing nothing. Women have more rights and have it far easier then men these days. In the past before modern weapons meaning the firearm. Men were the soldiers because they were physically stronger and faster than women but with the invention of the gun it levels the playing field yet women soldiers are still not sent in for special operations or even combat in general.

Since my country had a Queen who was a real ruler and not just a sidekick of the king 500 years before Queen Elizabeth II. Women and girls in my country see feminism a little bit different. Power or "Empowerment" comes with responsibility. Blaming others for own poor choices like it's in most cases blaming patriarchy isn't real "empowerment" rather something very opposite.
Equality is always matter of how equal are yourself. Living in a bubble of your own superiority just because you have sexy butt and most guys want to bang you and you get ton of attention isn't power, it's not an achievement of feminism. Being respected is power but respect needs to be individually achieved and it doesn't come automatically with sexy legs and ideology like postmodern feminism.

Both. To acknowledge the past, Look at all the barriers and abuse women went through for 100s of years. There are still women today that are oppressed and being abused by men. Thats not to discount women can abuse men too. In the west a lot of women have it really good compared to other parts of the world. In some places women do need empowered because they are still oppressed. Though I will admit the equality for men they refer to has to do with showing emotions etc but they don't acknowledge some of the actual issues men face like higher rates of suicide or inequality in family court.

Feminism wouldn't be needed if all women around the world had equal rights to begin with.

The woman's liberation movement out of the '60s and first wave feminism were definitely about empowering women + resisting the patriarchy. Just like the women's suffrage movement in early 20th century. But feminism has become tribalist and misandrist. If feminism was really about equality you would see feminists advocating for forcing women to register for selective service, be equally represented in dirty, dangerous, and low paying jobs such as ditch digger, default 50/50 child custody, and reforming the family court system. Regarding hiring, it's definitely not about equality. Many fields specifically want female employees to fill quotas, it's not about a merit based hiring system. Also, it's very focused about having more female members of higher management, and no one is concerned with the lowly manual labour sector being hugely male dominated.
