Because your skin colour belongs to a class system. The lighter you are, the more privilege you have. The darker you are, the more you are at a disadvantage and seen lower. The royal family, the reason they became royal was because of their skin being pale and this whole blue vein thing. Then for darker skin, those who had to work outside and got darker, were poor. Those who stayed inside and were pale were richer. It’s a whole thing

Light skin was only valued because the rich had it, they didn't become rich because they had light skin. It was the other way around. Of course that was only in some parts of the world. In other parts lighter skin was seen as a curse.
Google is definitely free. Perhaps use it more?
