AUSTIN, Texas — A Texas man who has spent more than 20 years on death row is set to be executed next month, but new evidence has many advocates reexamining his case.

This week, dozens of Texas House representatives, scientists, doctors, advocacy organizations and attorneys sent letters, urging the Board of Pardons and Paroles and Gov. Greg Abbott to grant Robert Roberson clemency before he’s set to be executed on Oct. 17…

Since Roberson’s conviction, medical experts have found that in the days before her death, Nikki had severe, undiagnosed pneumonia, which they went to the hospital several times to get treated. Each time they were there, doctors prescribed Nikki medication like codeine and Phenergan, which made her condition worse…

Wharton was the lead detective on Roberson’s case and testified for the state during his trial. His testimony is largely the reason Roberson is on death row.

“I say, I got it wrong,” said Brian Wharton, the former Chief of Detectives for the Palestine, Texas, police department. “I made some assumptions about Robert that were clearly incorrect … I'm embarrassed about myself that I did not see him as he is. Back then, it might have changed something."

We got it wrong folks. This is exactly why I oppose capital punishment. We are human and we still make mistakes. I would be fine with longer sentences instead of executing anyone. What do you say?

Unless there comes a day where we get it right 100% of the time its a travesty to allow even one innocent person to die due to a wrongful conviction. Why allow our governments to have this kind of power of all things? Where are those anti-government types at now?

I am against the Death Penalty for one reason that can’t leave my very being….

When you send an inmate on death row to be executed, once they get to the end of their journey someone has to strap them in, set up the method of execution, then ‘turn the switch’ / ‘administer the agent’ or ‘pull the trigger’…. Killing a potentially innocent person that cannot be brought back. Those people working on death row multiple times a week, month, year, etc. that can really mess you up psychologically also you are asking a person to kill another person in the name of “justice” which seems highly unjust in my opinion.

The death penalty seems too cruel just on the basis of having human beings maintain it, administer it, and then witness a human being wiped off the face of the Earth thanks to their interference via their job. It is evil.

They need to do a thorough investigation before applying the death penalty to someone. I support the death penalty with my Conservative views which is 40 %

I 1000% agree with this. Especially the fact that we WILL execute an innocent person.


I cannot help but be reminded of the 1769 doctrine that says, “the law holds that it is better that 10 guilty persons escape, than that 1 innocent suffer.”

The death penalty is a barbaric vengeful anachronistic state sanction murder regime that is racist, arbitrary and flawed. It has NO PLACE in civilized society.
