Why would anyone have a baby in this economy unless they are really rich?

Depends. But I see a lot of couples and they are waiting to have kids until they are 30 but in the meantime they both have huge student debt they have to pay for. They are spending 10 years saving fof a big wedding. They spend a huge amount on an engagement ring often the price of a new car. They both have to have expensive new cars. Then they have to have a very expensive house either rent or mortgage, they won't make do with a smaller or cheaper even for a while. Then they but stuff on credit or with loans and then have to pay a 3rd of their earnings servicing the intrest. Then they go to expensive restaurants and pay $15 for a cup of fancy coffee. Then there's the holidays, spa days and vacations. They've basically every penny spent as soon as it's earned so that if something goes wrong such as a loss of earnings or prices go up they find themselves short. The latest clothes and jewellery too. A couple I'm friendly with she was talking about $1000 a month on weaves and he was talking about his special Nike sneakers costing $500, could not believe it.

I see this in America more than anywhere. You got couples busting their ass for years trying to earn enough to live like some sort of celebrity or to have something to post on social media. I think it's more about what you do with money than anything. My husband and I have only his wage coming in right now and that's probably going to be the case for a few years. We are lucky that we own our own home which helps. We buy buy used cars that are reliable, I let him decide as apparently you can't buy a car just because it's a cute colour. I mostly cook our meals. I pack him a lunch so he doesn't have to buy food at work. I shop at wallmart and gap for clothes, if I like something that's too much I don't buy it. I rarely see a hairdresser and I grow my hair long. I do think that having a baby in an American hospital is extortion.

Yes. A lot. Historically people always have children and most people are not rich.  kids don’t cost that much money… people don’t want responsibilities nowadays.

Almost everyone of your ancestors had far less and they had far more children than your even thinking about. So that is a very poor excuse, regardless Baby can't wait until your rich and stable so you don't have a choice.

Life is not suppose to be sequential contrary to what you been told. Your not suppose to have a house, career, stability etc.. before starting a family. that just isn't possible for nearly everyone. There isn't anywhere near enough time to get all those thing before the baby MUST show up.
So do the baby when you do the baby

I know multiple people doing that, not really rich, but middle class and up. They are figuring it out. but yea, better to have solid incomes... and two people there for support plus family.

You don't gotta be rich to have kids. I have 5 and I'm no where near being rich. They are all happy and healthy
