Why do we need to use the term cis for gender?

I understand the meaning of cis but we do not use this term for anything else? I have never heard anyone ask for cis Coke as opposed to Diet Coke, or cis sausage as opposed to vegetarian sausage, because we have historically used a term to define the standard and only distinguish the none standard.

We didn't, but once some men decided they wanted to be women, things changed, and now women who are born naturally are referred to as cis women. I'm just as perplexed as you.

Yeah I am confused, I mean we have electric vehicles now but I never hear anyone say they drive a petrol vehicle, because u don’t need to refine the original, just provide clarity on any deviations from that.

Cis is the opposite of trans, and it’s used to make that distinction of “not a trans person”

Saying “not a trans person” has a lot more syllables than “cisgender” it’s just a more efficient way to say the same thing

Male and female is sex, not gender. Cisgender is also a medically accurate term for specific gender identities relating to those who prefer their assigned sex and assigned gender

Yeah tbh, sex and gender are interchangeable words. Though-out the history of the English language they have meant the same thing. This effects such a minority of the population, it seems strange to change the language for that, when we can just use the term male and female meaning man and woman and define any deviation from that separately

Just let people be inclusive. It’s not like saying a new word is going to kill you. You’re allowed to be annoyed about change as much as you want but that doesn’t stop it from happening

I mean it is like Eradicating steps because some people need a wheelchair, let’s just put a ramp out when it’s needed not change the whole structure of the building, and this effects far more people than the term trans

That is actually an excellent metaphor to use because we’re specifically talking about language changes. Ramps have an intrinsic value in society because everything that benefits the physically disabled also benefits the able-bodied, ie your ankle hurts so taking the ramp is easier than the stairs. Similarly, having new language alongside the choice to use old language at your personal discretion, does not change or harm the old language. The ramp exists alongside the stairs, both are accessible, both are easy to use in the same way one can say “partner” while also saying “boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife/spouse” and have it mean the same thing. As long as you’re not an asshole going out of your way to tale a sledgehammer to the ramp just because you prefer to take the stairs, no real harm is being done. And if everyone else prefers to use the ramp, that just means more room on the stairs for you.

What would you put pen to paper a "standard person"? From there we go into personhood and rights. Objects don't have to justify personhood and rights to be alive.

When you set the standard what a person is that dosen't connect everyone it leads to people getting murder in broad daylight. No different then stepping on bugs. It really is just that dangerous.

You don't need to use it, but sometimes it's helpful. Like if someone asks you what kind of sausage u want u may say polish or pork, if u don't want vegetarian. There ARE words for it even if u don't often need to use them bc they can just be implied.

You don't have to use it - it's mainly used for distinction or clarity.
