Where do you stand on the issue of the 1st Ammendment and how it pertains to vulgarity around children?

"Watch your language! There's kids around!" I'm sure you've heard someone utter those words before. I never thought too deeply about it, but I came across this video recently which got me thinking...

As you can see the black guy's shirt is indeed quite inappropriate. And while I completely understand where the father is coming from, I'm also a supporter of the First Ammendment. So, this made me raise the question...

Was that father impeding on their first ammendment privlige? There is nothing illegal about his shirt, so is he just not supposed to wear it in public because there might be kids around?

What about pride parades or naked bike rides?

While I do understand the parents' point of view, I also believe that people should have a right to exercise their first ammendment privliges in a public space, within the confines of the law of course.

Is this just an American thing? Are American parents just soft? Or would parents in other countries react the same?

Just for the record, I wouldn't wear something like that in public, but I believe people who want to should have that right. There's always a risk your kids will be exposed to something vulgar in a public space.

Also, have you ever been inside an American elementary school? 😂 I assure you, American kids are no strangers to vulgarity.

The first ammendments is just a dickheads charter for people like him. Just because you can say something doesn't mean you should say it.

Let me twist your question. If he started clutching his chest and fell to the ground why should I help some one who's saying "fuck you"? Why should a shop assistant serve some one say to them "fuck you" Does he cover up when someone bigger approaches? I bet he doesn't.

You don't swear in front of kids because it's just not right and don't hide behind an antiquated document because if that's your only justification then you shouldn't have that right.

Freedom of speech does not protect people from me asking them to shut the fuck up. It doesn't even infringe on it - since I'm not the government and I'm not prosecuting anyone (nor do I have the ability to do so)

The father in question - didn't infringe on anyone's freedom of speech, because fucking hell, it doesn't mean " I can say whatever I want and no one is allowed to tell me to shut up".

When I was a kid, most adults had NO PROBLEM AT ALL not swearing in the front of the kids!! The worst we heard was "hell", damn", "ass" & sometimes, "shit".
I hear mothers talking to their pre-schoolers today going, "You motherfucking asshole fucking cunt!! Get your motherfucking ass down off of there, you fucking piece of shit before I get a rifle and shoot your motherfucking ass!!"

To me it's honestly a symbolic tool to distinguish good faith argument. If and only if good faith is established we should follow these guidelines.

The first amendment is relying too much on people to have a level of shame and honesty to fully function. This is why we can't have nice things

I personally believe you should be able to say anything at anytime. Just because something isn't illegal doesn't mean there aren't social consequences.
