People of GAG, Are you Familiar with Title IV-D and IV-E of the social security code?

Its not the same in every state, Though at the federal level its the same for all states, And one of the reasons i HATE CPS, or DCFS or what ever its called in any state.

In Title IV-D, The federal government matches dollar for dollar, every single dollar collected of Child support, and spousal support. In fact in some states, Texas is like this, The law states that family court must arrange divorcing families to maximize both numbers so the sate makes the most off of the situation. Most states are like this. Even if there is no law on the books, Family courts are incentivized to break up families in such a way that the sates make the most money off of said families.

In Title IV-E, The federal government gives 250k annually to the state for every single child that is taken from families and placed in states custody. This right here is why, at least in my state, most people treat CPS like criminals trespassing on your land. Their job is not to keep families together. their job is to break up as many families, take as many children as possible, so that the states make money.

Both Titles combined earn the average state between 500 million and 1.5 billion federal dollars annually. Its part of why the state fights so damn hard against things like 50/50 shared custody. Again Texas is a good example of this, they have shot it down, every single time its brought forward.

So, if you think any state government is on your side, you're absolutely wrong, and need your head examined.

This is a travesty!! I had no idea that this is his happening in America's family courts. However, is doesn't surprise me either.

I had just the opposite happen to me when I went to divorce court with a child support case to settle.
This was in 1979.

I was given custody of my son.

He had his child support lowered from what another judge ordered him to pay $250/month to $100/month - which he never paid my son and I.

He went underground and did it on purpose so he wouldn't have to pay child support.

I could never find him and until I knew his whereabouts I got zip! Nothing!!

When my son was about 16 my ex husband remarried and his new wife didn't even know he had a son. But he told her finally on Father's Day.

So, I had his new address and started up my child support case again. He lied to the court and said my son had been living with HIM for the last 2 years which was a lie.

But guess had the burden of proof ordered from the court? Yes, tis was I. I had to get letters from his doctor, his school and send the original copies to the court.
They set a court date and he didn't show up. So the judge put out a bench warren for his arrest.

When I asked what does that do? They said if he ever gets pulled over for a traffic violation then the cop would arrest him.

So, if he was a good driver he would get away from having to pay 18 years of back child support. And when my son turned 18, he was free and clear and the bench warrant was no longer anything!!

That sucks, I HATE deadbeats. And i dont mean just fathers who dont pay, I mean fathers who choose not to be present in their children's life. The best child support a father can give, is being there for his children.

Yeah states control this and some of them really suck Florida is really strict they don’t mind going out of state for dead beat moms or dads they will hunt them down to garnish their wages too if they don’t pay

Yeah. Nasty. So in the prenup make sure you both agree to 50/50 and are clear on this legal money-making glitch no matter how angry you "might" be and screw the state over.

Agreed. This unfortunately effects both genders, Though not equally, (it effects fathers the most), But it still SUCKS. If my wife and i divorced, i have ZERO issues with supporting my kids, I dont want the state involved, but the state has laws that say that any child support collected by the mother alone does not count, even with receipts, which means once divorce happens and custody is given to the mother, no matter how much he pays, he is in debt. Because the state wants their cut. Its bullshit. The state and federal government has no business in family lives. Period. Unless there is abuse.

States can be so screwed up Alaska took my true id away from me when I moved here and now I have to jump through hoops in order to be able to get another one and pay a bunch of money for it I don’t think it’s fair that I had a federally accepted id to have the state take away from me and now in order to fly out of here to the lower 48 I have to get another one or a passport is nuts to have to do such to fly into another part of the country I am a citizen of born and raised never been out of country

I know that if you find out that the child you have been paying child support for turns out to be not your biological child you still have to pay. Thr state does not let you off the hook.
