When can a trans character exist and be the protagonist of a story without being called woke? ?

Difficult i think. Primarily because it is a recent woke concept and it can't escape from that context.

Male and female characters can't escape from those gender roles even when they do. If a woman was aggressive then it would be in contrast to normal female characteristics.

A problem for readers is that regardless of gender we have, nonetheless we have a strong proto male/female characteristics n our mind. So transcharacter is going to be confusing to 99% of us.

Yes, I'm starting to write a story, but I don't have any trans characters. The question is purely curious. Right-wingers say that we should create new characters and no one would complain, so I thought about what it would be like with trans characters.

On the weekend I decided to waste an afternoon watching a movie. Turn on Netflix and I see there is an Outlander movie. Loved Outlander so i am now excited. In 30 seconds it was clear the lead character was gender swapped to female. Any Scottish claymore fight scenes just won't be convincing now. Now I just don't want to watch Outlander, I don't want to watch any Netflix movie.

Instead I YT Rome again.

Our own gender is pretty embedded within us. A guy writing a female character is probably problematic. It will probably be one dimensional because he will be writing his perception of women.

I suspect it is even more problematic to write a trans character when nobody has any concept of trans or much genuine interest. Inherently a trans character is going to be an alien character estranged from the readership because there are no hooks to enable us to engage with that character.

Yes, no will complain at new characters that are trans but it doesn't mean people will/can engage with them.

so I would say... make it a normal living character, not trying to prove something... someone happy with themselves and decisions they made but broadcasting it... because people don't do it...

Never. People who call things woke do not care how nuanced or natural a character is, if it's any group they don't like not being portrayed as the bad guy then the story is woke to them. There is no other reason to it.

Don't worry about those people, just tell the story you want to. It's exhausting and useless trying to please them because they don't want a story at all they just want propaganda...

That worked with a lesbian in german politics who is leader of the far right party that is explicitly against anything lgbtq+. She doesn't live in germany so she is not subjected to their own laws they want to implement, but are right wing party members ever?
