How can you be a cop and not know how to fight?

They're not trained to fight. At best, they may be taught a few basic evasive maneuvers that only work in certain situations. We can't have them being trained how to fight because the bleeding hearts would be crying when someone's sweet angel got beat down for attacking a cop.

When I was a boy here in Windsor, most cops were (though it will read like a stereotype) six-two and six-three Irishmen and Italians and believe me, they'd bop you with their fists if you got wise with them !!!

Cops are not trained to fight. They are trained to detain - there is a large difference.

It's like saying to your old dad "How come you can't win the Nascar race, when you've been driving the family car for 20 odd years?"

Being a driver, and a race driver are very different disciplines.

You shouldn't be able to be a cop and not know how to squelch a fight without a gun or taser, but I heard cops aren't trained in handling aggressors with fisticuffs or black jacks as they once were.

every other profession is specialized for specific tasks
