Some people are saying Melania wasn't fast enough, holding the Bible, as her husband took the oath of office. Rather than have his left hand on the Bible, it hung loosely at his side. It's really a case of Chief Justice Roberts starting to administer the oath before Melania was there, not Melania's fault. But some people always look for someone to blame.

It's also worth noting that, per the 20th Amendment to the US Constitution, the President-elect becomes President at 12 noon on January 20, whether he takes the oath or not. In actuality, Donald Trump took the oath at 12:05, 5 minutes after he was President, to make it official.

Under Article 6, Section 3 of the United States Constitution lies the No Religious Test Clause:

"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar also took their oath of office with the Qur’an in 2019 with their own personal copies.

In 2013, Tulsi Gabbard became the first Hindu member of Congress as the Hawai’i representative for the state’s 2nd congressional district. She chose her own copy of the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Hindu text, to take her oath of office with. In 2021 Jon Ossof, the first Jewish senator for Georgia, took his oath of office on a book of Hebrew Scripture that had been owned by a rabbi whose synagogue was bombed in the 1950s by white supremacists.

Congressman Robert Garcia was sworn in this past January to serve as a California state representative of the 42nd congressional district, and one of the items he chose to swear his oath of office on was a beloved and rare Superman comic. Garcia used comics to learn to read and write in English as a child after he came to the United States from Peru, and he chose Superman because he embodies all of the values that Garcia wishes to uphold — and also happens to be an immigrant.

He borrowed the comic from the Library of Congress for the occasion, and was also sworn in with a copy of the Constitution, his citizenship certificate, and a photograph of his parents, both of whom died of COVID-19 in 2020.

Honestly, I just don’t care about this in general. The reason why I think it is worth bringing up is for the fact Fox News would get their base riled up with this, imagine the headline “First Female President Kamala Harris didn’t put her hand on The Bible”. 1000% Conservatives would lose their mind though the same Conservatives don’t seem to raise an eyebrow.
You can swear on a Bible, you can swear on a law book, or nothing though idc he is the President after being sworn in and that’s that. This little detail doesn’t make me mad or happy or sad or joyful or whatever. It is a waste of time in my honest opinion.

That would not work for Trump. He swore to uphold the constitution, then made a proclamation that being born in America does not make you American, yet the constitution clearly states that it does. Then after saying his pardons of the Jan 6 rioters would be on a case by case basis, he made it a blanket pardon for all regardless of how violent they were. And he compared them to the innocent women and children taken hostage and killed by Hamas, in front of a woman there who had lost members of her family to Hamas. His message is the constitution and law and order do not matter, as long as you do what he wants he will protect you, but otherwise you are his enemy and he will go after you.

I was just pointing out that the oath he takes states that he will defend the constitution, yet he is issuing orders contrary to the constitution, like not accepting the 14th Amendment to the Constitution which states that “all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.” He intends to ship them out of the country.
