Can you still discipline a child without hitting?

I had a disagreement on FB without someone that really thought not using corporal punishment means no discipline at all and doing nothing at all. The person misinterpreted a video. This person thought only spanking is discipline.

There was a video about an woman that simply said you have to establish rules and correct a child's bad behavior and educate them, get them prepared for the world. No where in the video did it said that you have to spank them to discipline and educate them.

This person literally stated that nowdays you can't discipline because they'll call the cops on you. This is where I disagreed. You don't have to hit to discipline.

The person really thought it was either spanking or doing nothing at all. Both are extremes to me. Not spanking doesn't mean there is no boundaries nor rules.

You only have 2 choices and neither fits. You can discipline without spanking it’s just not as effective. I have 4 children 3 are adults and one much younger. You don’t beat your kids and you never hit them in anger. But when they are young a spanking can make them understand that there are consequences to bad actions.
Timeouts don’t work because eating those cookies they were told not to touch might be worth standing in the corner or a time out in there room, but it’ll never be worth that spanking.

Or it can be effective with the same results in the end but it just might take longer. It indeed takes more time.

The first blow is for the child, every other blow is for the out of control adult.

There is no need for the first blow. Corporal punishment only teaches might makes right and that violence is restorative justice - ITS NOT!

You do not need to hit children to discipline them unless you are a Republicsn in which case inflicting pain is a way of life.
