Some people fly foreign flags to show their heritage or support for another country. What's your take on this practice?
These folks came here supposedly to integrate with us, follow our laws, and be subject to the government here. Flying their original home flag at protests to me indicates they came here under false pretenses with no real desire to integrate or become part of our Republic. They are thus essentially hostile invaders and need to go back to their flag country. It’s no different than me showing up at a friends house in a foreign country for dinner as a guest, bitching about their faith, culture, government, decor, and religion; telling them how to raise their kids, and insisting they make and serve only American food while rudely changing their TV station and radio to English speaking American interest stuff without permission. If they insist on flying their flag as a cultural thing, here it needs to be flown below the American one. You wanna protest about the government, then simply organize and have folks hold up flags or banners saying “I am from” or “Our people are originally from (X country)”. I plan on expatriating. I am NOT going to go to a new home country, fly the U. S. flag, and insist everyone speak English.

Because our elected officials and the wealthy among us are such good, law abiding citizens. They set such a great example, right? Law and order and all that, right? How about the history of the USA? Hmmm... the white folks were "essentially hostile invaders" who the Natives could have told "go back to your flag country, but they didn't. Instead, they trusted the invaders, and where did THAT get them? Uh huh.
People come to America for lots of different reasons, but a big one is to escape tyranny in their own land. Little do they know, or expect, the tyranny they will find in the USA. Little do they know about the history of the USA, just like yourself.
I was born in the USA and I fly various countries' flags on occasion because I loved visiting them and I loved the people. I don't fly them alongside an American flag, but if I did, the American flag would be on top. But at this point in time, I'm not flying the Stars and Stripes because I'm disgusted with what's going on in my country. By the way, I don't need guests to tell me how bad "Christian Nationalism" is in the USA, or how our President is committing crimes against the Constitution AS WE SPEAK, and how no one has the fucking balls to stand up and slap his fascist bitch ass, along with the clown GOP, back where they belong. No, they don't have to tell me - I'll tell them.
Fly the flag of where you want to live. If you want to be a US Citizen and flee your own country, why do you still want to fly their flag? You should want to fly the flag of your new life, not your old.
If you are protesting the American government while flying foreign flags then you are separatist rebels that want to join an existing nation with their culture, or declare independence and form a new nation entirely. As such groups should and cities which condone such action should be considered in rebellion. There is only one way to address that, and that is with military dominance. There is noting wrong with protesting without a flag, or protesting with an American flag, but if a group gathers flying a foreign flag they are identifying themselves as an enemy nation. For example, with the Mexicans that are protesting with only Mexican flags (not a single American flag out there), you have to assume they are a terrorist cell of cartel and they should be dealt with accordingly.
If you don't want to fly the American flag because you have a grievance with the federal government, then fly your state flag in protest. States have constitutional rights, and thus the right to peacefully assemble. Foreign nationals that are not part of the united states do not. Drone strike!
I've always been very proud of my Irish heritage I think I'm like 80% Irish if I'm remembering right from the test we did. My family on my dad's side were probably Irish slaves sent to the colonies. A lot of people fly both, they fly the flag of their country and the flag of their heritage. I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't live in Ireland but I'm proud I can trace my roots back to such an ancient and magical land with deep legends and friendly people with a rich culture. I've always Identified strongly with it.
I get that and I see nothing wrong with it. The question was more so talking about people protesting the government and flying foreign flags though, would you consider that to be a positive practice or disrespectful?
If you're talking about those nut job pro HAMAS protesters than yes 100% in that case fuck em if that's what their doing Islam is a violent murder cult not a religion.
@cormac995 We all have roots someplace. Some have roots in hellish countries like North Korea or China, or countries that treat their women like dog shit. So do you think they should fly their flags too?
@NoDecision I think they have the right because of freedom of expression but that also doesn't mean I endorse it either. I'm always relieved when I see those pro-Palestine protesters finally go to far and start committing crimes because I'm like "FINALLY, they fucked around and now I get to watch them find out. I'm well aware of what these cultists are capable of.
I was alive during 9/11, and I've seen the footage. Further my father-in-law was a first responder during 9/11 and has permanent lung damage and will probably get cancer soon. People don't realize it but most of the first responders that were there are already dead. My father-in-law is the exception to the rule (So far).
essentially, I'm saying there are tiers to this. It's fine to wave other countries flag I'd even say it's ok to use it in a protest because of freedom of expression but that said there's also a difference between using a countries flag as a symbol and waving a Hamas, Hezbollah, Taliban or ISIS flag because at that point you're not protesting you're supporting terrorism and that's a crime.
@NoDecision I'd also make the argument that the Russian flag actually falls under the terrorism category by now China though is complicated. They're bad and commit a lot of human rights abuses but they're also nowhere near as bad as Russia or the Taliban. Let me be clear this is my opinion so far, I believe WW3 is about to start and once it does, we're going to see how many of the rules of war the CCP follows. I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same things as Russia in war and they start committing acts of terrorism then yes again revoke it.
I sure as hell don't like a lot of this but at the same time, we're not free if we don't have freedom of expression but unfortunately not everyone uses their rights to help others. Trust me I've been following what's happening in Ukraine and the middle east as well as the parts of the east that are heating up and I've even dipped into looking at what's happening in Hati, Panama, and Sudan too. Freedom of expression is a spectrum so it's a case-by-case thing and when things work that way it gets complicated deciding where to draw the line.
I'm ok with it when they fly both flags. The flag of the country they are in and the flag of the country they are from. If they fly it alone in a foreign country then I find that disrespectful.
If you are an illegal flying a foreign flag protesting what we are doing to protect OUR Country take your flag turn around and get the fuck out of this country go home fly your flag there where it and you belong.
If you're an immigrant studying in another country and graduating, flying your own flag is disrespectful. Did your country provide the school, the clothing, the food, the material, the expertise? No, the one you're in did.
