Broke people are the happiest?

I've heard this before, it seems the people who don't ever have two pennies to rub together seem to be the happiest. There is always the exception, but still. Maybe it runs along the same lines as jack on the titanic at the beginning of the movie when they're playing poker and he says' "when you got nothing, you got nothing to lose". I think there might be some truth to that. Opinions? If you ever associate with some of these fairly wealthy people and hear what they worry about, it's ridiculous.

And the data basically shows that money, up to millions a year, does increase happiness.

However, we also have data showing that a simpler life and in particular a more social life with the people living near you also sharply increases happiness.

Comparing the two a Social Life is happier. This is more common in poorer areas, leading to your misunderstanding. However, when we look at these areas, or at social life richer people, it is very clear that the richer social people are happier than both the rich and the social people are.

At a core it is good to recognize that money might not be the best route to being happy. A barbecue with your neighbour might do just as much! However, money definitely goes in the plus side on making people happy.

I grew up in poverty and had many disadvantages, although in my case, it was because I went to a private school for rich people on a scholarship, so I was always at a disadvantage compared to my classmates. Maybe if I had studied in a public school I wouldn't have noticed that inequality.

So there was a time i was almost homeless. I had no job, a car payment, student loans and I couldn't afford rent. I can tell you that I was not happy XD

Studies show that people become happier as they make more money (up to a point).

I think it has to do with love. We didn't have much, but still had each other kind of thing.
