The Ukraine's leadership is insane if they think they can demand the rest of the world to risk world war 3 on their behalf with a security arrangement before peace.

Getting directly involved in the war before peace puts Russia into a position of protecting their land the only way they can with nuclear weapons.

Supplying Weapons to one side of a conflict has always been regarded as involvement on that side.

Ukraine has asked for western boots on the ground many times and indeed requires it because they don't have the manpower to win this war.

Ukraine has NEVER been a shield that protected NATO. They were at best a buffer state but once NATO took on the baltic states we basically gave up on the idea of buffer states. If there is a war with Russia those states will fall first.

There are no buffer states for NATO, any country that wants to join the DEFENSIVE alliance is free to do so as long as it meets the necessary conditions.

So it is their duty to continue to support Ukraine + EU and NATO countries.

I don't think you can comprehend nobody wins a war between nuclear powers. MAD only works if both sides actually believe the other will fight.

If you wanted to protect Ukraine you would have had to create a formal mutual defense pact with such a power BEFORE the war not after. Such a defense pact didn't necessarily need to be NATO.

If you think such existed under that Budapest Memorandum then Obama and Biden needed to have made that clear before Russia invaded, NOT after.

Instead in both cases they kept things ambiguous and went down the path you suggested that guaranteed only in the best case scenario large scale bloodshed under the assumption Russia was anything less than a dictatorship.

None of which is in the interest of these untied States. We Americans actually need a strong and independent Russia on the global seen willing and able to not bend the knee to China.

Letting them get beaten up in Ukraine and forced into deals with far more powerful enemies the resources and technology of which has made those enemies on their own as far more significant threat is a huge problem.

And we can continue with other states in history. Russia does not guarantee compliance with treaties, therefore it represents a danger to the security of all countries in its vicinity, security guarantees are needed for the ceasefire so that in case of a new aggression Russia does not progress and at least remains in the situation before the signing of the "agreement".

The security guarantees are clear, the USA and the UK respect the Budapest Memorandum by constantly supporting Ukraine with military, economic and humanitarian aid, etc.

If you say that you need a big and strong Russia and do not put it on an equal footing with the Chinese danger, you are clearly intoxicated by propaganda. There are dozens of states that have a common history with Russia, some strong others weaker, BUT ALL CONSIDER RUSSIA A DANGER.

China wants to turn Russia into a vassal state and Russia wants to rule the world like the US, not alongside the US.

Ukraine is an independent and sovereign state and has the right to decide its own path. In Eastern Europe, where I am from, we are not willing to make any compromises with or without the US regarding Russia. Russia isn't in a position to attack any NATO member. The fact is The Ukraine should have joined NATO decades ago when Russia was prepared to allow it. Russia should have been invited too.

Failing that, the Ukraine's Only real defensive option is to establish a similar defensive alliance with anther nuclear armed power. This has to happen while the Ukraine is at peace. IE: before the invasion.

The Ukraine wanted into NATO at the end but NATO takes far too long to join and Russia doesn't want that.

So unless the Ukraine things they can defeat Russia on the battlefield on their own, they need to get out of the conflict as soon as possible ceding territory if need be to give themselfs a chance to get into an alliance.

This is what Trump was trying to do. once Ukraine is at peace again she is available to for other countries to make treaties with. But she has to get to that peace otherwise you just asking countries to join your war against the worlds largest nuclear power, rather than help deter a war.
