Bill restricting transgender athletes stalls at Senate. Thoughts?

The Senate failed to advance a measure to restrict transgender students from playing on women’s sports teams on a 51-45 procedural vote Monday evening, which falls short of 60 votes required to break the filibuster. No Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the vote.

The legislation introduced by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) is a cornerstone of the GOP’s education agenda and would have helped cement President Donald Trump’s executive order that seeks to end transgender student participation in women's and girls’ sports. The measure would have determined that Title IX, the federal education law that bars sex-based discrimination, defines sex as based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.

It's a further demonstration of how disgusting the Democrats are. Women's sports are for women. They shouldn't be forced to compete against men or be subjected to men in locker rooms. Only the truly insane think they should.

Women should be celebrated for being women. It's admirable for women to strive for athletic excellence. Having to compete against men who claim to be women detracts from women's accomplishments and degrades what it is to be a woman. That goes for beauty pageants, as well.

Not a serious problem -- there are only a couple of dozen transgender athletes who want to play on women's teams. The House and Senate need to worry about the destruction of important government agencies.

Considering there is probably less than a dozen transathletes in college sports, I think we will be safe even if this doesn't pass. I'm especially glad to see Tuberville take the L here. He's a tool.

They did try that in a few countries, but nobody wanted to play there. Why would you, if you can compete against women you have a natural advantage over?

I think it is awesome that democrats are supporting guys playing in women's sports. This will really help them in 2026.

At the moment, Democrats do not really have anything to hammer Trump on. According to polls, the only issues voters trust them more than Republicans, are abortion and climate change (and that latter thing is not a priority for most of Americans right now).

Democrats can only win the House in 2026 if Trump messes up the economy.
