S. citizens can legally receive Social Security numbers (SSNs) under specific circumstances, such as when they are authorized to work in the United States. The Social Security Administration (SSA) issues SSNs to immigrants, temporary workers, and certain non-citizens who need them for employment or government benefits.
During the Biden administration, over 3 million SSNs were issued to non-citizens primarily because of legal immigration, work authorization programs, and refugee or asylum status. This includes:
Legal Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders): Immigrants who obtain green cards are eligible for SSNs.
Work Visa Holders: Non-citizens with employment-based visas (such as H-1B, L-1, and O-1) receive SSNs to work legally.
Refugees and Asylees: Individuals granted refugee or asylum status can receive SSNs.
DACA Recipients: Those under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program are eligible for SSNs.
Student and Exchange Visitors: Certain students on F-1 or J-1 visas may receive SSNs if authorized for employment.
The issuance of SSNs to non-citizens is not new and has occurred under multiple administrations. This ensures that legally present individuals can work, pay taxes, and contribute to Social Security and Medicare.Which part of this do you have a problem with?

I won't get into it, but a lot of true above, but the video covers the other viewpoint. Maybe the issue is around the abuse of "refugee" status. That is legal, but it makes a slippery slope into society for 5 years or more. There are people here illegally... been here decade... work in the shadows, or slaves.
Major problem I have is when I see citizens without resources suffering in the streets, many paid into the system. But other non citizens receive benefits.
It gets weirder as we talk about global inclusion... the left effectively wanted open borders..."anyone that shows up gets resources", and that thinking was same in Europe. But we try to include Greenland or Canada into the country officially and the left pukes. Granted, few of them immigrate, but there's benefits to including them moreso. Maybe South America be next. What if Trump said "I want to buy the whole world and make it American"... theyd puke, war, etc.. But that is what the left wants in essence, one world govt inclusion. haha... strange times of change...
Problem is the distributing of resources, fairness... it's what we are all arguing about, using govt as the arbiter of inequality. Won't be solved on this thread... - 1 y
@lightbulb27 They are here, and they work - hard. Do you want them to pay taxes or not? BEcause this is, as usual, about money.
- 1 y
Many don't or didn't work... esp new ones as didn't get work approved... not sure why that was so delayed in the administration... but there were lines of people in nyc, large volume going to certain cities, mine included.
Illegal ones I've seen are not paying taxes... under the table $ probably, and so live poor and are trapped, at least some. I think that's why Governor Hochul New York cannot allow all the "illegals" to be kicked out... economy depends on it. That's bad, they are not bad people and hard working.
I essence in existing system (over decades) we have an enslavement system to take advantage of low cost workers.
Converting people into legal, documented workers on paths to citizenship is right thing to do. How that's done, is way out of my hands. The current govt has just flushed the system and starting over.
- 1 y
@lightbulb27 Republicans will never tolerate converting illegals into legal citizens because they want to pay them less than the legal minimum wage, and they know that if they become citizens, these people will never vote for them. THat is the reason for the constant bleating about "illegals voting" which is bullshit, and the reason for the suppression of legal votes, all but the right.
- 1 y
Maybe.. but not totally. I know such people and some are republican in thinking... because they are hard working business people. When you rely on self... lean republican. Rely on govt/community is more left... roughly. But reps do immigrate and many are from immigrants themselves. Certainly maintaining power is a narrative, but even within my wife's immigrant family, there are some right and some left. They all got immigrated.
If you believe that, you'd believe if we merged Canada, the left would overwhelm and win every election. It be a foolish thing to do... but guy at top wants that.
- 1 y
@lightbulb27 The way the right treats immigrants, the vast majority of them hate Trump with very good reason. They will never vote for him. Read what just happened in Wisconsin.
- 1 y
not sure that article. can't blame them, that's their choice if they are voters.
But then again in the above video they talk about the opposite side... the # of people abused/killed paying gangs to get them here. A legal process is better, if one could be had. It's all a double edged sword. Again... merge most of south america and Canada... problem goes away! Left and right happy!:-) But they want their cultures. then have to wait for a defunded beaurocracy, better processes, or new govt to open the gates again.
- 1 y
The problem is when these people don't work. I mean why should they work when the get all these freebies that our own vets don't get?
- 1 y
@NoDecision Thry do not get any "freebies" you lying pice of shit!
- 1 y
@msc545 Unfortunately, far-left liberals trying to allow illegal immigrants to vote isn't "bullshit". The New York State Supreme Court (all Democrats) just ruled that a recently approved New York City law that allowed illegal immigrants to vote in local/city government elections is completely unconstitutional, and rightfully so. "Oh it's just local elections." Yeah right. That's how the leftist bullshit starts. Luckily, there are still a few sane non-socialist Democrats out there making proper Constitutional decisions.
- 1 y
I think there's plenty of evidence @NoDecision is right they get free stuff, at least around big cities nyc, chicago, etc.. I figured the argument would be as human beings, they have a right to resources to have a chance at life. That I can side with somewhat. Video talks about how some got $ and resources, expensive hotel stays, etc.. I don't understand your view point how you got there. maybe your side of the country is very different than east coast.
I disagree with her in that I see so many that want to work, seek jobs. I do not see lazy at all... and that's why I favor immigration... controlled. we need them since spoiled americans won't do certain jobs... we will find that out in our new roofing prices, apples, berries, etc.. Immigrants some of hardest working abused people there are. No doubt, it's a jacked up system for decades. theyve been building shopping malls, roofs, doing massages, mowing, cleaning... anything!
@NoDecision where have you seen lazy illegals? What I saw was they couldn't work or couldn't find work.
- 1 y
@NYCQuestions1976 It's sort of the reverse of the voter suppression that you people do, right?
- 1 y
@lightbulb27 where is the evidence?
- 1 y
@msc545 I thought illegal immigrants couldn't vote? So of course they will never vote for him. I'm sure the immigrants that came in legally, with all the hassle that entails, are not happy about all the benefits the illegal immigrants have received, that they didn't get. I would be pissed too. Most of the illegals feel entitled, and I'd wager a lot of them are not only living here illegally, but are also doing illegal things. Stealing catalytic converters and cars are some of their deeds.
- 1 y
@msc545 Oh no? They didn't get put up in luxury hotels and given debit cards? I'm sure that has changed now, but it was happening. Too many people who saw it going on, including the hotel personnel said it was true. And please stop with the name calling. I am being respectful to you. I would like the same, even when I may be wrong. 😕
- 1 y
@msc545 No one is suppressing United States CITIZENS from their LEGAL right to vote, and supporting proof of citizenship (voting identification) laws to vote isn't voter suppression. Stop gaslighting people. Anyone suggesting (or outright stating) that it's "too difficult" (or some variation thereof) for non-Caucasian citizens of the United States to provide credentials and documents to prove their citizenship is a blatant racist. United States citizens from ALL backgrounds and walks of life are able to provide credentials and documents to prove their citizenship to do all sorts of things in this country all of the time.
- 1 y
@NoDecision Yes, illegal immigrants sure did get debit cards in New York City. It was about two years ago, and to the tune of around $53 million. Paid for by the New York City government, with New York City taxpayers' dollars.
- 1 y
@msc545 I question what would be considered evidence in your view. The easiest is the sheer cost expressed by the NYC government a to the cost of caring for the people. It's billions in a short period of time. Whole buildings were used to house migrants. Even so, some people eventually expired and moved to the streets. I consistently see people in the streets selling anything they can... like fruit. NYC is a migrant/immigrant city.
I buy their stuff, I like to see people work. Often 100yds down is a homeless white guy sitting there with a cup out. They get free place to stay, but pan handle. work... nope. That is a justification for immigrants, they are hungry and will work.
I try to see both sides as you can see...
your side of the world may vary.
- 1 y
@lightbulb27 Actually, the ones that have been here for years are hard workers, especially in certain trades, like food services, being nannies, concrete work, masonry, and landscaping. And then there are others that make their living through crime and joining gangs. Those we don' need.
- 1 y
@NoDecision i agree with you. Thers some sane answet somewhere… we will need workers, growth. Ps you did well to respond above calmly to the verbal assault. Im concluding my role in this thread. Much easier talking in person w our ‘factual’ viewpoints. Its so hard to get anywhere online when views conflict.
- 1 y
@NYCQuestions1976 The research shows that when voting ID is imposed, older people and people of color tend not to vote. The exact people that, coincidentally, who the right-wing does not want to vote. Moreover, there are no credible accounts of any US election being changed by illegal voting, and the incidence of illegal voting is so low as to make illegal voting a bad joke. You simply do not want certain people voting because you are afraid they will not vote for right-wind candidates or measures. Too bad - this is a fucking democracy, and you do NOT get to supres votes you dislike. Change your policies so that people don't dislike them and you instead.
- 1 y
@msc545
I'd have to wonder why black/older people don't vote if they have to bring their ID. Definitely does not make sense for older people. I've never met a black person without an ID. So I have no idea what is going wrong in certain areas... but that should be fixed. When I worked polls and when I go to the polls... they ask for an ID. So I hear your arguments, but I'm lost as to the real issue. Get your ID... ya got 3.5 years... and then vote. Failure to do that, is not my problem.
- 1 y
@msc545 Research by whom exactly, other than the made-up crap masquerading as "research" by far-left socialists? The answer is that there is no such legitimate research. You're being racist and ageist, and covering for your racism and ageism by making ridiculous excuses. Stop gaslighting people with your leftist nonsense, and stop being an apologist for anti-American socialist policies.
- 1 y
@NYCQuestions1976 Stop lying.
- 1 y
@msc545 I'm lying? No. Any person believing and/or claiming that someone's alleged inability to do something is solely based on their race and their age makes that person a racist and an ageist. Don't be mad at me because the truth hurts.
@NoDecision Maybe, but probably not. He's arguing with you because he believes you to be wrong (you're not wrong), and not because he believes you're wrong because you're a woman. As for the name calling, his history shows that he's pretty equal opportunity with that. - 1 y
@NoDecision you are getting his wrath because of what another woman did to him (in his perception) which caused great pain. plus he deals with a lot of men wounded by women. until that's resolved, you'll get bitterness. show up as a blue anon and you'll get better treatment. the root of much of that was childhood trauma that lead to the choices. the counselor needs a greater counselor, but he doesn't want to as yet, so the problems fester.
- 1 y
@lightbulb27 Out of curiosity, how do you know that? If that's true, I could be his counselor. Years ago, I divorced "Narcissistic Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Histrionic Tendencies, Hypomania, Sociopath" who loved playing the "Faux Victim Act". It's legitimately Oscar-worthy. That's not only qualifying, that's bonus round stuff right there! 😂
- 1 y
@NoDecision If they can vote, which they can after becoming legal, they STILL do not vote for right-wing candidates. The rest of what you said is unproven and just illustrates your racism.
- 1 y
@NYCQuestions1976 I read many of his posts and asked questions public not priate, he's been open about it which is good and healthy, that's how a person gets past it. But until it's emotionally healed, as you know, 'it' ... the hurt... is in control. Moving on is not same as healed. I'm not a trained or licensed therapist, I've been through plenty which is where I get my viewpoint from. It's not hard to see other peoples stuff, it's very hard to see our own and harder to correct. That's why the world is a jacked emotional mess of ping pong trauma. This girl thought it was about her in absence of awareness of his issues... it's not. Jesus heals (God), there's a way out of the emotional traps, but there's process required. There's other ways I'm sure, I'm less versed. That's my opinion. You are a therapist in nyc?
- 1 y
@lightbulb27 Oh no. Not at all. I'm an electrician. I just joking said that I was overly qualified to be his therapist/counselor based on the woman I divorced years ago (Narcissistic Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Histrionic Tendencies, Hypomania, Sociopath, loved playing the Faux Victim Act). 😂
- 1 y
@NYCQuestions1976 ok, yes you got a PhD is school of hard knocks! If you fell into that person, then you are a nice, sensitive guy and got your own issues to grow out of, ask me how I know:) I won't pick on this other guy anymore, I'm not here to abuse and it's kinda rude of me to call people out. My point is to help people get to their better selves and I saw her thought path going into a non productive route which would further decay. It's got nothing to do with her.
For what it's worth, we are all screwed up, in this way or that. It's a question of whether you know your stuff and willing/able to work on it, or let it be. If it's screwing your life, it should be worked on... when for most, it gets avoided, ignored, justified. Ugh... humans. Electrical is more straight forward, except when you got wires shorting in a car.
- 1 y
some of that came out wrong, my point is applying labels goes the wrong direction, more effective to ask questions. I'll let it be at that.
- 1 y
@lightbulb27 I don't know about your characterization of me being nice and sensitive (I've had my share of arguments on here and in real life), but you're relatively spot-on with everything else.
As for the short in your car, the positive is touching the negative somewhere in the car. Try pulling each fuse and relay out one at a time to see if it clears the short. Or it might be a "parasitic draw". That's when something in the car continues to draw power when it's not supposed to after the car is turned off. It slowly drains your battery until one day it doesn't have enough power to start your car. Same test. Pull one fuse and relay one at a time. When the battery stops getting drained, you found the device in the car with the parasitic draw. - 1 y
@NYCQuestions1976 oh yea, I gave up on those issues long ago. I know it's in the wire harness for one car, but I moved on. Thank you though! These things are so complex anymore and my cars are old, can't imagine a newer version with more computers and sensors.
Thank you. It's up to you to evaluate yourself and disposition. Not a push over I'm sure, but how I view it, "energies" draw. There's a lot of women that can have profiles as you described, but if you drew that out of the deck and more than once, helps to look at yourself and what energy you project. Point being, you don't want to repeat... but it's the sub conscious doing the choosing. So evaluate that sub conscious 'heart'. But in general, many women will have issues around control. I know some that don't, but security and control are key for them. Don't get 'what they need', and they will commence abuse!

Yes, non US citizens are required to have a SSN to work legally, but they have to follow the "LEGAL" requirements when applying for a "Work Visa" . Those here "Illegally" can not collect Social Security. These are the ones that Musk is referring to.

1 yBecause Biden could not gt elected without voter fraud and the illegal's voting help. This ticks me off. My parents and grandparents worked hard to be able to get SS benefits. I think you have to work 40 quarters to get it. Plus you don't get rich on it. But the illegals waltz in and get it without working for it - certainly not 40 quarters anyway. Just another rip off from the American workers. I mean there are people who can't afford to retire because SS doesn't pay enough. And the people who are on fixed SS benefits from when they retired 20 years ago, which may have been decent then, but they didn't keep up with inflation over the years. Not to mention all the fake accounts of people 140 years old which have SS money being paid out to them. Some people need to be put in jail for all this.

1 yAs far as I know, non-citizens are REQUIRED to get a SS number to work. It has nothing to do with being a citizen. It's about needing the SS number to work. If someone has a work visa, they still need the SS number to work.

@DryGermanGuy In the state I live in we do. In fact when my son was getting his license we were denied because an illegal alien was using my son's SS number. We had to drive home and come back with his Social Security card to prove he was who he said he was.
